Inspired by Yulia Brodskaya. I can't get over how amazing these are. I wouldn't be surprised if Yulia invented quilling. She is a 28 year old artist from Moscow who creates beautiful designs from vertical pieces of thin paper and her website is full of inspiration in color, line, shadow and technique. You don't have to be a fellow quiller to wish you were like this great lady. Even though her pieces would be amazing if they were drawn, it was the fact that they are 3d that caught my attention. I imagine one of her expert pieces would take hours, which I do not have... So I tried a simpler, version that can be displayed in any house.

When my husband and I were engaged, I bought wooden letters to spell out 'save the date' and covered them with different patterned paper. (I couldn't resist showing our cute picture) The letters were already covered (I know, I didn't post a diy... I picked out 4 colors of paper that went with the colors in the pattern and had them cut into 1/2" strips. I only have an h. How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color. We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!). So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success.

Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint... Supplies: 1/2 cup acrylic paint (choose any color you like, or mix colors together to make the perfect shade!) 1. 2. Once your chalkboard has fully dried be sure to slate the surface before using it for the first time. Have fun creating any color combination you like!! Personalized Sugar Cube Wrappers {free printable + how to wrap} | Free clever craft ideas, sewing patterns, templates and printables || Merriment Design. I made these personalized sugar cube wrappers to go along with a bridal shower gift for my friend Debbie.

I bought Debbie’s sugar bowl and creamer from her registry (very pretty btw) and filled it with personalized wrapped sugar cubes in her pink and orange wedding colors with her soon-to-be married name: Ten Eyck (yep, there’s a space). Personalized wrapped sugar cubes would also make a great DIY birthday or Christmas gift along with handmade fabric teabags for loose tea. For the sides of the sugar cube wrapper I used a super cool free font called Aierbazzi to make personalized bouquets. Each letter in Aierbazzi is a plant, and when you type a word it puts the next plant right on top of the previous one, creating a unique bouquet for your words and phrases.

This bottom plant on the sugar cube wrapper says “Debbie and Tony” and the top one says “Love Kathy.” When you fold the sugar cube wrapper, the plants wrap around the sugar cube showing their wedding date on the bottom. WANNA MAKE IT? DIY Vintage Framed Wedding Dessert Table Trays | Ruffled® This is a simple project but one that can pack a lot of punch and be used in many different ways. Lindy reused old frames to create kitschy dessert table trays… All you need is a spray can, wooden photo frames and a fresh paper liner to be used under the glass.

Instructions: Step 1. head on out to your local thrift store and look for the ugliest frames you can find. The ones you’d never in a million years put in your house. Metal, wood it doesn’t matter just make sure they have a lot of detail. Step 2. on the way home hit your local hardware store and purchase a can (or two or three depending on your needs) of spray paint in whatever colour you’d like. This is the fun part as there are so many fun colours to choose from now like watermelon or pistachio. Step 3. once you’re home remove the backing and glass from your frames and set aside. Step 4. using a very fine sandpaper give your wood frames a little sanding (you won’t need to do this to metal frames). Step 6. I hope you like my idea! I do have an obsession with paper. And I love seeing all sorts of things made from paper. Especially flowers. I’m not the best at making these sorts of things yet, but I’m on a mission. I don’t know what it’s like in your neighborhood, but when I step outside here in Oakland, I sense it right away: Fall is in the air! I’m lucky enough to have a few turning trees on my street, so I don’t miss out entirely on the brilliant autumn colors I remember from growing up in NH. Speaking of brilliant autumn colors, I’m thrilled to share this stunning maple leaf rose bouquet DIY from a fellow Kate — clay, fiber and paper artist Kate Hust.

Kate first learned how to make these a few years ago from a retired art teacher in her community, and now they’ve become an annual tradition when fall rolls around. Her instructor taught her to wrap the leaves really tight, so they looked like rose buds, but Kate has modified the technique a bit to suit her own tastes: She likes to find the really big leaves and make them with large open “petals.” She’s clearly perfected the craft, and I’m so happy that she’s decided to pass the tradition on to us. Thanks for sharing, Kate! So, when I ran across the idea of having a S’mores Bar during a wedding reception, I immediately fell head over heels in love … It is such a warm, family friendly idea (reminds me of the times spent telling stories around the campfire). Love notes {easy note cards} This weekend I taught a lesson at church that focused on how our attitude can affect the overall feeling in our home.

I encouraged the girls to leave little love notes for their parents and siblings to show love and appreciation and make their home a happy place. I wanted to give them each three cards to use, so I had to come up with about 24 cards. Yikes! I decided on this quick and easy design that is also a great paper stash-buster.
