Smart People Magazine is a new and unique media project where people have come together to collaborate on the birthing and nurturing of a most significant magazine. It highlights the most important, but sometimes forgotten or taken for granted success factor in knowledge work, innovation and productivity and achievement - people . You, your peers, every one of us. A series of outstanding blog posts by Joe Firestone about the topics of KM, social media and the so called 2.0 phenomenon. It started of in August 2008 and continued on in an insightful journey.
In this three part series I‘ve classified the evolving landscape of knowledge management into three categories. The first category is Leveraging Explicit Knowledge and is about capturing documented knowledge and building it into a collection - connecting people to content. The second category is about Leveraging Experiential Knowledge and it gave rise to communities of practice and reflection processes.

Today the Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrates its 80th birthday . Affectionately know as the “Coathanger,” it is the world’s widest long-span bridge. It also is a popular destination for tourists.
The Australian Army is investing in a substantial knowledge management initiative as part of its Adaptive Army strategy. This strategy might be summarised as a "learning organisation" approach, but I digress. They have produced their first booklet for comment. Unfortunately its not available for public comment, but it is an interesting read. I thought I would share the thrust of the document.

If you’re a basketball fan or live in the Boston area, you know that Red Auerbach died a few days ago. Among other achievements, Auerbach coached the Celtics to eight consecutive N.B.A. championships. There’s a bronze statue of him sitting on a bench in Boston’s Faneuil Hall marketplace—balding, stocky, holding his famous “victory cigar”—an ordinary-looking guy, but a basketball genius. Part of that genius was an extraordinary ability to communicate with his players. How? Yes, he had a loud voice, he was passionate, he knew a lot about basketball.
