What is an Activity Schedule? Many of us use a schedule or calendar to keep us organized each day.

What is an Activity Schedule?

An activity schedule is a set of words/pictures or both that cue an individual to follow a sequence of activities which is like a schedule or calendar that is specific to their special needs. Once an individual is able to master the use of an activity schedule they are more independent and have purpose in what they do at home, school, work, and leisure with reduced assistance from others. Furthermore, activity schedules promote choice; helps decrease unwanted behaviors and help individuals stay on task more efficiently with less assistance from others. Activity schedules are simple teaching tools that enable individuals with autism or developmental disabilities to accomplish activities more independently and with less adult intervention. In FIDIC contracts (Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils), it could be interpreted as fulfilling the requirements of the schedule of payments in a lump sum contract. In essence it relates to a programme where each activity is allocated a price and interim payments are made against completion of each activity. Its advantage is that it simplifies the administration of the interim payment process. Building Dispute Advice Services, Manchester. Project network

The work breakdown structure or the product breakdown structure show the "part-whole" relations. In contrast, the project network shows the "before-after" relations. The most popular form of project network is activity on node (AON)(as shown above), the other one is activity on arrow (AOA). The condition for a valid project network is that it doesn't contain any circular references. Project dependencies can also be depicted by a predecessor table.

An alternative way of showing and analyzing the sequence of project work is the design structure matrix. By doing this, the total task duration and the earliest and latest start and finish times for each task are also calculated and displayed. In addition to showing which subtasks are critical to on-time task completion, the activity network diagram can help determine where extra effort to speed a subtask will have the greatest payoff to overall speed. The activity network diagram has had a relatively long history, dating back to the 1930s. The method called the activity-on-arrow or, more simply, the arrow diagram will be reviewed in this article.
