Les arbres sont mentionnés en tant que créateurs de microclimats, source de minéraux depuis les couches profondes du sol, frein à l'érosion, bénéfiques pour les nappes phréatiques, source d'aliments et de matériaux, mais le sujet n'est que survolé. Concernant les mares je n'y ai pour l'instant rien vu à ce sujet.La méthode en elle-même se concentre sur l'autosuffisance alimentaire sur petite surface, elle ne détaille pas la structure du milieu alentour. Sa philosophie globale est d'utiliser moins de surface pour produire de la nourriture, et ce faisant de laisser aussi de la place pour que les écosystèmes sauvages se développent librement.
