Moreover, users can retrieve protein structures connecting to the PDB database and simply typing the PDB code of the protein of interest. Protein property files, like Gaussian cube files or CHARMM grid files, can also be displayed in MarvinSpace supporting computational chemists and molecular modelers. Subscribe to Education Portal. Anyone who’s spent time in a classroom knows that in any academic subject, the student who reads the textbook several times from cover to cover and makes colourful, organised notes all over it is going to excel in examinations.

For this reason, I’ve been trying to get students reading their textbooks (and making great notes on them) almost as long as I’ve been teaching (since 2007). Glancing your eyes over the words in a textbook isn’t enough. How should you use a textbook properly, in any subject? There are six rules you need to follow. 1. The signs of a well-used textbook are obvious: it should be inked heavily with a student’s own notes, the cover should be wrinkled and torn, and there should be at least three different brands of sticky tape holding the book together.

A pristine textbook is the hallmark of a student who doesn’t study. What do great textbook notes look like? 2. 3. 4. Highlight important concepts, but don’t go overboard. 5. Make a first set of notes on A4 paper. 6. Chemist. Hydrogen. Hydrogen is one of the key starting materials used in the chemical industry.

It is a fundamental building block for the manufacture of ammonia, and hence fertilizers, and of methanol, used in the manufacture of many polymers. Uses of hydrogen Hydrogen is used in the manufacture of two of the most important chemical compounds made industrially, ammonia and methanol. It is also used in the refining of oil, for example in reforming, one of the processes for obtaining high grade petrol and in removing sulfur compounds from petroleum which would otherwise poison the catalytic converters fitted to cars. Of course, you are welcome to use them in any order you choose. This page contains links to the PowerPoint presentations that I will be using in class. Though I place them here to give my students 24/7 access, they may also be used by any teacher or student who can benefit from this resource. I have found that it is much easier to incorporate small, topical presentations into my course. Also, I believe that these become more useful to other teachers when I allow you to organize topics as you choose. I purchased iSpring 7 Pro, which allows me to post these presentations in Flash, as I have traditionally done.

The new HTML 5 and Flash presentations also have some nice new features. For people who want the original PowerPoint file, you can download the PowerPoint Slide Show (.ppsx).
