As the DNS issue, you can overide whatever the router is providing for DNS servers with the DHCP lease. Match your wired DNS setting to your wireless setting. This is normally not an issue as local overrides are rare, but if you are getting different DNS servers, that indicates that your wired connection settings on the computer are different than the wireless settings. Other than specific wireless values, they really shouldn't be, especially when it comes to DNS. While Comcast used to have a very weak DNS structure years ago, it has been a long time since there have been any serious problems that I have heard of. If after you try a known good cable designed for high speed and you normalize your DNS settings, if the problem persists, it sounds like either a NIC or router hardware issue.

In essence, any router will work if set to use a simple ethernet connection with a normal DHCP requesit for IP address.

However, in no way can a connection to Comcast make the Time Capsule (I assume you meant that instead of Time Machine) nonresponsive unless you changed settings and did something to it. If you wish to try again, follow these steps: You should now be able to use the TC for Internet access and wireless.
