Once you have verified the safety of the ice conditions, dress warmly and head out to traverse this vast expanse of frozen water. The winds will generally keep it free of snow and you may find that what looks like a 20 minute stroll is in fact a 30 minute hike which will take you between one and two hours... Marvel at the patterns in the ice, the cracks, the faults, frozen bubbles which look like pancakes and the frozen waves undulating on the surface.
