DROPS Bag with cable pattern in Eskimo. Spring 2007 - PAPER BAG. Weave in ends. Carefully block all pieces, pinning Body panels to measure approx. 12.5 inches square. Once body panels are pinned out, pin Gusset so that each section (between RS purl rows) will fit along one edge of the Body Panel. Lining Cut two pieces of lining fabric, each 1 inch wider than a Body Panel, and 2.5 inches longer. Cut 1 piece of lining fabric that is 1 inch wider than the Gusset, and 4 inches longer. With right sides together and leaving 0.5-inch seam allowances, sew Gusset lining piece around 3 sides of 1 Body Panel lining piece, clipping corners. Card Insert Note: Ensure that the white side of the card is on the outside of the box insert!

Bag With wrong sides together so that seams are visible on outside of bag, sew gusset along edges of Body Panels. Assembly Place card insert into bag. Percy - Knitty: Fall 2007. PURSE BODY Front of Purse: Using MC and straight needles, CO 43 sts. Work 5 rows in Seed Stitch. Work in stockinette st until work measures 8.25 inches, ending with a RS row. Bottom and Back of Purse: Work 119 rows in Seed Stripe Pattern (11 full repeats and first 9 rows of a twelfth repeat). Work measures approx. 20.5 inches. Use safety pins or waste yarn to mark each end of last row worked. FLAP Next Row [RS]: CO 3 sts using Cable Cast On, k to end. Next Row [WS]: CO 3 sts using Cable Cast On, k3, work in Seed Stitch to last 3 sts, bring yarn between needles to front of work, slip last 3 sts to right needle. Next Row [WS]: K3tog, work in Seed Stitch to last 3 sts, bring yarn between needles to front of work, slip last 3 sts to right needle.

STRAP Note: The first and last 3 stitches of every row of the strap are worked in I-cord Edging. BYOB - Knitty: Summer 2008. HAND GRIPS (Make 2) With smaller circular needle, waste yarn and MC, CO 25 sts using Crochet Cast On. Leave a long tail of MC. Work 4 rows stockinette st, ending with a WS row. Remove waste yarn from CO edge and place resulting live sts on spare needle. Fold CO edge of work to WS, so that spare needle is directly behind working needle. Next Row [RS]: [Insert right needle into first st on left needle and first st on spare needle, k these 2 sts together] until all sts have been worked. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. BASE Using smaller circular needle and MC, CO 41 sts. Row 1 [RS]: K2, p1, [k1, p1] to last 2 sts, k2. Lower Seed Stitch Panel: Using smaller sized circular needles in 24"/60cm length & starting from the mid-way point of one of the short sides on the base, pick-up and k165 sts in main color, then place marker to denote end of round.

Work in Seed Stitch as follows, beginning with Round 1 of pattern: Rounds 1-8: Work in pattern using MC. Spring 2008 - Brighton. You can easily substitute a commercial sport or DK weight linen, hemp, or cotton yarn. Good substitutes include Euroflax Sport Weight, Hemp for Knitting Allhemp6, Berroco’s NaturLin, or Knit Picks CotLin. Remember that yardage requirements (and gauge) may vary with another yarn. The size of the finished bag will also vary according to how severely you choose to block the lace. I preferred a lightly blocked, rustic look. It’s best to finish the knitting and blocking before buying the lining fabric. While it’s possible to sew the lining by hand, doing so by machine will greatly increase the strength of the bag. Bead Stitch (Worked in the round over a multiple of 7 sts): Round 1: [K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1] to end. Three-Needle Bind Off Hold both pieces of knitting with wrong sides together. Summer 2007 - Everlasting bagstopper.

Weave in ends securely using a sharp-pointed needle, backstitching several times so that the stitches will not come undone. Note: for the ribbon handles, I used enough so that I could put the bag over my shoulder. The bag, when full, will hang quite low, so if you will only be carrying it in your hand, make the straps much shorter. Cut the ribbon into two pieces. Fold under 3/4" of one edge of ribbon and pin it to the inside of the bag, about an inch in from the edge, with the raw edge of the ribbon facing the inside of the bag. Do the same with the opposite end of the same piece of ribbon on the other side of the bag. Note: I ran the ribbon from the front to the back on each side so the bag would hang tidier when in use. Split a piece of hemp yarn into sets of plies to provide perfectly colormatched sewing thread.

Drawstring: Take a large darning needle and thread one end of the drawstring through it. To stow the bag, tuck the handles and the top of the bag below the drawstring.
