Nacramamo-23122010-a. Owlishly: Elizabeth the rabbit girl amigurumi pattern done! Someday my brain will work hard enough to think up clever titles... for now we'll just stick with accuracy :) My daughter and I've decided that her name is Elizabeth, she likes it and names a lot of her toys that, and that's the name of one of my favorite heroines ever! It's funny because now that I have all the pictures taken and here, I don't have much to say :) I will say, for those of you that are interested, the pattern is available at Etsy and Ravelry. Now on to the next one! Craftgrrl: Magic Boxes. Now that Christmas is over, I can post some of my handmade gifts. These folding magic boxes were made at school, hand silkscreened onto BFK paper and glued with rubber cement. They fold out into this. I put some little gifts inside the boxes for my friends. A look at the lids... And the insides! Happy holidays! Hot chocolate mix in a jar--a really cute jar.

This simple hot cocoa mix is another great neighbor/co-worker gift that you can put together super fast. It's also our weekly recipe, so don't forget to make some for yourself! We used these mini "quilted" jars, mostly because they're just so little and cute, and because for one person, it provides several cups of cocoa. (One jar holds one cup of mix.) If you wanted to make some for a couple or family, try using a pint or quart jar. Just add more mix! Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe 10 cups dry milk powder4 3/4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar1 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder1 3/4 cups powdered non-dairy creamer Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Cheater version: Buy the bulk size Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix at Costco or WalMart and add 3 teaspoons of flavored non-dairy creamer per serving to make a gourmet flavor (see below) .

If you really want to make an impression, why not make gourmet hot chocolate flavors? *Add a few teaspoons of instant coffee crystals per serving for mocha cocoa. Now for the jar. Crayon Roll Tutorial. To welcome my new niece home from China on Sunday, I whipped up a crayon roll. I wasn’t able to give it to her in person but my mom said she was mesmerized by all of the crayons and how they slip in their own pocket. I see these crayon “cozies” holders everywhere and they are easy to make. If you don’t want to have to figure out the measurements, here is a tutorial on how I made mine.

I used two pieces of fabric 5 X 16 1/2 inches (for the outside and inside), one 6 X 16 1/2 inch piece of fabric folded in half lengthwise and pressed (for the pocket), one piece of lightweight fusible interfacing 5 X 16 1/2 inches, one package of ric rac trim, 30 inches of ribbon, one package of 16 count crayons. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the 5 X 16 1/2 piece of fabric that you want to be on the inside. Line up the bottom edges of the folded piece and the piece with interfacing, pin together. If you want to use ric rac, pin it around the edge as shown.

Welcome home Faith! Craftgrrl: T-shirt Shopping Bag. Nothing new... I've seen people make these before... very easy to do and handy. I turned an old t-shirt into a shopping bag. I cut out the neck and I cut off the sleeves. I gathered up the bottom and stitched it closed with my sewing machine. Craftgrrl: Felt Owl Ornaments. Folding Trees. Kusudama Tutorial part 1.

The Japanese kusudama is a paper ball made out of multiple identical origami shapes glued together. They were traditionally used as a ball for incense or potpourri but now we see them more for decoration or as a gift. Today I am showing you part 1 on how to make the Japanese traditional shape. There are many different patterns to make a kusudama ball but I find this the easiest pattern to get started. This is also the pattern I used to make the pink flowers on the tree in the banner. What you need for this tutorial is: 60 pieces of paper cut into squares. Below I will show you how to make the basic shape, you need to make 60 of these. Fold the bottom corner to the top. Fold the left and right corners up to the middle corner. Fold the same points down. Open up the flaps you have just created and flatten them. Fold the top triangles towards you so they are level with the edges of the paper. Fold the triangles back using the crease you made earlier and glue the outside triangles together.
