Thorsbjerg_trousers.pdf (Обект application/pdf) Mbcsbraies.gif (Изображение GIF, 526 × 731 пиксела) - Мащабирано (93%) The Vikings. No complete pair of Viking trousers has ever been found, a gap in the clothing record so large that when the Danish national Museum decided in 1991 to outfit a Viking warrior for display, a pair of woolen trousers were used that were based on a pair about 1000 years too early. For our own purposes, this means that we have a large scope for substitution trousers, although it does seem likely that Viking trousers were also made of wool.

As an interim measure to making your own trousers, a pair of modern woolen trousers may be used. Remember, one pair of pants looks very much like another, and as we have no actual find to refer to we can modify a modern pair providing that weave and colour restrictions are met, and by bearing in mind that most of the trousers are hidden underneath the kyrtle.

Trousers can be bought cheaply in charity shops. They can be modified by sewing up pockets and removing modern fastenings and zips. Viking_handout_men.pdf (Обект application/pdf) Grey Company: Tunic and Pants. The Tunic First you need to decide what style it is going to be: Long or short sleeved; plain or decorated; splits in the side, front or none at all 1Once you have decided on the style, fold your material in half to the desired length, then fold it in half selvage to selvage. (A selvage is the finished edge of the fabric.) Measure your torso and find the largest measurement, either your hips or your chest, and divide by four. As your material is already divided into quarters, you only need one quarter of the total measurement. 2 Draw your pattern onto the material. 3 Decide on the shape of your neckline and cut this out. 4Once the neck hole is cut, open up the tunic and lay it out flat, then take a piece of scrap material (which can be of a different colour) that is slightly larger than the neck shape (at least 2" all around). 5 Sew around the neckline. 6Neaten up the facing edge and finish the outer edge (zig-zag or overlock will do) and turn the facing to the inside of the tunic.
