Before punk there was also MC5, Nuggets and oh yeah some of you readers and whatever press people put that kinda shit together may also be familiar with a band by the name of THE STOOGES!!!!! Origins For their second album for Gull Records Judas Priest knew they were in a crucial position. After “Rocka Rolla” it was obvious the band needed to fulfil their true potential if they wanted to move ahead and gain proper foothold in the metal market. Some of the material used for the album was already an established feature in band’s live set, such as legendary “Victim Of Changes” and “Dreamer Deceiver.” A bulk of it was apparently written while band was touring the endless circuits of British clubs, hungry to survive and determined to make it. “Sad Wings Of Destiny” emerged in March 1976 and the difference between it and Priest’s debut album were measured in light years.
Right off from the classic cover depicting an angel apparently fallen from above in the middle of flames spoke a different language, it reflected the dramatic nature of the music. Insgesamt ein sehr stimmiges Album, bei dem man neben den hauptsächlich melodischen und getragenen Songs, lediglich eine kleine Portion mehr Power und Härte vermisst. Für Abwechslung ist trotzdem gesorgt und allein die ehemaligen Betätigungsfelder des Line-Up's lesen sich wie das „Who Is Who“ der Ohio Szene: AXEMASTER, BREAKER, DARK ARENA, DESTRUCTOR, WRETCH, ANTITHESIS,... noch Fragen? Here's the full dossier from The AC: "The label this is on, Magna Glide, has an interesting history. It was the project of Kasenetz & Katz, the well-known duo who had been behind much of the "bubblegum" pop of the preceding era, such as the 1910 Fruitgum Company, before hitting it big once again with Ram Jam and their annoyingly ubiquitous "Black Betty". This is Trial's second release after the 'Inborn System' 7" released on Freak Records (small label with 2 releases. The other one is the '1984' 7" of Crucifix). The songs on the 7" showed already the way they were heading. It seems that every time I hear mention of Shooting Guns in any sort of article, the author seems to be arguing with themselves the entire time, utterly unable to decide whether they’re a psychedelic rock or dead ahead metal band; I on the other hand have little use for such classifications.
The only thing that I really know about Shooting Guns is that they come from somewhere in the blindingly cold, white, semi-artic region just the other side of the border known as Canada, and that they’re some amazing musicians!
