Science. A lander on Duna to gather scientific data An image of the GUI after doing an EVA report Science, sometimes called science points, is needed to unlock new parts in the technology tree. It is obtained by performing different scientific activities in different situations and biomes (where available), then either returning to Kerbin and recovering the craft or transmitting the activity data home with an antenna.
Science activities This is an overview of all science activities which can be performed and how results differ by biome and situation. Biomes Biomes are areas of a body's surface defined by an additional map in KSP game data. Some combinations of activity and situation ignore biomes and give the same result wherever performed within an SOI; these combinations are marked " Global " in the table below. Situations Situations reflect the flight status of your craft or kerbonaut relative to a celestial body. Table of science activities and situations Surface Sample EVA Report Crew Report Modules.
Ribbon Generator. Science. Extra-Vehicular Activity. Kerbal on jetpack An extra-vehicular activity or EVA is an activity outside the craft. Kerbals can leave the (relative) safety of their capsule and venture out into the world to perform maintenance tasks, perform science, or simply go exploring. To start an EVA, open the exterior (default) view of a manned spacecraft by pressing C and then either left click on the capsule door or mouse over the images in the lower right corner and click the EVA button. To re-enter the capsule, approach the door and press F. The Kerbals can navigate outside their spacecraft by climbing ladders, walking, or using their personal RCS jetpacks, which have a Δv of 600 m/s RCS fuel that is completely restored upon entering a command pod.
With version 0.23 an EVA suit can carry 5 units of EVA propellant. Prior to that version the jetpack fuel was represented by an arbitrary percentage that did not correspond to any other resource. Modifier key Because KSP can run on different operating systems the modifier key (Mod) differs between them. In the table below, the generic Mod key is mapped to the following keys: Windows: ⎇ Alt (e. g. ⎇ Alt+L) Mac OS: ⌥ Option (e. g. ⌥ Opt+L) Linux: ⇧ Right Shift or ⌘ Win (e. g. ⌘ Win+L).
As of version 0.23, ⌘ Win key appears to be the default mod key. In windowed mode but not in fullscreen mode ⌘ Win may have special meanings to the Window Manager (e.g. ⌘ Win+↑←↓→ may resize and/or move the active window). As an example, Mod+L locks the current stage. Some keyboard also require to press a Fn key to access some special keys like F5 for example on a Macbook Pro requires Fn+F5.

Campaigns. Official campaigns The Career mode has been introduced in 0.22, but it is still in development. See the Career mode page for more. Please see community-developed campaigns below if you want to be challenged with the current sandbox.
Community-developed campaigns Until Career Mode will be developed, the KSP community offers the following logical campaign mission progression manifest to players looking to follow a near historical and future age list of mission goals and milestones that can be done in the current sandbox. These campaign ideas are listed here to help you plan your own space program. Feel free to add your own ideas to the list, or add additional missions to existing campaigns. Intro From solid rocket launches, to commercial spaceflight, to nuclear exploration beyond the Kerbol system, this campaign is for you! Rules Spaceflight is expensive, and technology progressive. Tips Test your staging by launching test flights (run through everything prior to reaching orbit). Campaigns. Orbital Mech 101 (HD) - A Kerbal Space Program tutorial.
