Web tool recommendations (#eltchat summary) « Sandy Millin

http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/2012/03/04/web-tool-recommendations-eltchat-summary/ Skype - phone calls through the internet, including video. Simple, effective, reliable, and it works all over the world. It can be used to bring experts or other teachers into your classrooms. You can use the ‘chat’ feature to share files and write in vocabulary. You could use Skype instead of traditional listening tracks to Skype friends in the UK/US (or other countries!) For example: “With my [ Shelly Terrell's ] 4 to 6 yr-old German students they learned how to do origami from @EHerrod ‘s son in the UK via Skype”.

Facebook vs estudos

Week 3 in Classdigitools

http://lunas994.blogspot.com/2012/01/week-3-in-classdigitools.html It is week 3 in all my workshops. I have a brand new Podcasting blog and I am really, really busy in Webtools . My Webtools forums are bustling with activity and I am having the fun of my life.

Accents and dialects of the UK

Leslie : Uh, one thing I always remember there: there used to be a nice, old postman from Liphook 2 used to cycle round. And, uh, I was lucky sometimes: he used to pick me up and put me on his old, uhm, front-carrier and gave me a ride nearly home. Hmm. Leslie : No. No, uhm, well, soon after I started school, don’t ask me why, cause I don’t know, uh, one of the boys over there started calling me ‘Goodie’. http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/sounds/text-only/england/milland/
http://www.listen-to-english.com/ You can put the podcasts onto your iPod, Smart Phone or MP3 player, and listen to them on your way to school or work. The full text of each podcast is on this site (and will also appear on your iPod screen), so you can look up the meanings of words that you do not understand in a dictionary. Then close your eyes and listen! Have fun! Listen to English podcasts are completely free. The costs of recording and of hosting this website are met by the advertisements in the left-hand side of each webpage.

Digital tools class, Week 2

Creative writing prompts - a site providing thought provoking questions to stimulate writing. Could equally be used for discussion. For me they could be expecially useful in the journalism classes, but less applicable with my business students although with some guidance they could be used to highlight the different registers used for different types of writing. Zooburst - a site to create 3D pop-up books that can have information attached to them. I think this would be an excellent site for young learners but I am not sure if my business adults would be so enthusiastic about it. They would prefer to work with Prezi I think. http://theflightlessenglishteacher.blogspot.com/2012/01/week-2-reflection.html
