As part of recent work for an organisation in the Science and Innovation Sector, TwentyTwo undertook a literature review of some of the latest trends in workspaces for the science and research communities. We found two interesting pieces of research that look at how workspaces can support the innovation process Research Paper 1 – Innovation Spaces: Workspace Planning and Innovation in US university research centres This article, written by Umut Toker and Denis O. Gray in 2008, explores the relationship between the number of face-to-face interactions which occur as a result of a range of layout types and the role these interactions play in the innovation process.
The key finding was that an increased number of face-to-face interactions improves the innovation process.
