CATable by Hao Ruan offers a work surface for cats and their owners

Made from a solid piece of wood, the table top features a series of openings and tunnels that have been carved out by hand to create spaces for a cat to satisfy its curiosity and allow pet owners to share their work space with a feline friend. "People who live with cats always have these kind of experiences: putting away the cat from your laptop was like a sentimental ritual of temporary farewell," explained the design team at LYCS Architecture in a statement. "A proper sized hole could be so irresistible to cats. Their curiosity would be greatly satisfied through repetitively exploring the unknown path behind the hole. " "The design of CATable was a fusion of those experiences, as well a locus where the interaction occurs. Update: CaTable has now gone into production and is available to purchase.

Trouf table and pouffe hybrid by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset

Trouf, a cross between a tray and a pouffe, was designed by GamFratesi with both hard and soft surfaces as a multi-functional piece of furniture. "We wanted to join different functions just combining soft and hard surfaces, and create furniture where the different objects or moods find their place informally," Enrico Fratesi told Dezeen. Wooden trays for holding food or drinks are set into the upholstered tops, offset so a fabric section at one end can be used for laptops, books or resting feet.

Rounded edges were designed so sharp corners wouldn't cause any issues when walking past. "It seemed correct to have a rounded shape," said Fratesi. A palette of pastel colours was chosen for the fabric coverings, though these can be customised to match or stand out against the users' existing furniture. Th_080114_13. Grow Up Series by Kwon Jae Min. Tokyo Table by Loïc Bard.

Product news: this wooden coffee table by Canadian designer Loïc Bard has a gaping mouth for swallowing narrow books and magazines. Tokyo Table features a distorted circular tabletop that houses the magazine compartment within one end. It is built from bleached maple and it stands on three rounded legs. Designer Loïc Bard said he created the table during a winter in Montreal and was inspired by childhood memories of a trip to Japan: "I designed this coffee table while remembering the sober atmosphere, the simplicity of the utensils and the rustic environment of the tea ceremony. " "It focuses on a simple aesthetic and the discreet compartment is ideal for hiding books, laptops, magazines and newspapers entirely out of sight," he added. Net tables by Benjamin Hubert for Moroso. Product news: London designer Benjamin Hubert has created a series of tables with legs and tops made of metal mesh for Italian brand Moroso. Designed by Benjamin Hubert for Moroso, these circular tables have been made by manipulating expanded steel, which is more commonly found on industrial equipment and architecture, to form cylinders and disks for the legs and tops.

"In reference to its industrial origins, Net is purposefully geometric and simple in its design language," explains the designer. "The tables have a large surface with expanded steel perforations that give a feeling of lightness while being small enough to not allow small objects to slip through. " The tables come in a range of powder-coated paint colours and are available in various different sizes. Net was launched at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan last month where Benjamin Hubert also unveiled a chair that weighs just three kilograms. Product news: an extra surface swings out from underneath this coffee table by Italian designer Roberto Paoli (+ slideshow). Designed for Ligne Roset, 360 degrés has a second shelf tucked underneath the larger table top, which can be rotated outward and positioned on three sides next to the slightly higher surface to create more flat space. The additional shelf is balanced on an arm that branches from the single leg supporting the primary table.

Paoli chamfered the coffee table corners and minimised the profiles by tapering the edges underneath. Une table ronde à taille variable. Melted Snow Table by AAStudio. Bucharest, Romania-based AAStudio have designed the Melted Snow table. Description from the designers It all started with the idea of creating an original piece of furniture that would be contemporary, innovative, but most importantly, to be emblematic of everyday life: a table. Since we like to challenge Corian use in all kinds of crazy ways, it came natural to use it. Corian is a very strong material, non toxic, non porous, that can take almost any form throught thermoforming. The form of the table resembles the shape of a rock formation covered with snow called ‘Babele’ from the Carpathian Mountain.

Corian became the perfect metaphor for the snow covering the table.
