The cabin sits on a piece of land that’s been owned by the same family since the 1970’s and has never been developed. The family wanted to have a weekend retreat where multi-generations could use it as they wish, like for entertaining, private Pilates classes, or a wake-boarding and mountain biking base for the younger members of the family. A material palette of ipe wood, steel, glass, and concrete was used to design the cabin, which looks at home between the trees.
In front of the cabin is a large lawn area where wildlife visitors like deer and coyote visit, and a low board-formed concrete planter wall is home to fresh herbs and native plants. Design Detail – The addition of a single piece of wood creates a cozy window seat.
