THE GOLDEN APPLE by Bob Kessel after Peter Paul Rubens It is recounted that Zeus held a banquet in celebration of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis (parents of Achilles). However, Eris, goddess of discord, was uninvited. Angered by this snub, Eris arrived at the celebration, where she threw a golden apple (the Apple of Discord) into the proceedings, upon which was the inscription καλλίστῃ “for the fairest one”.
Three goddesses claimed the apple: Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. Thus it happened that, with Hermes as their guide, all three of the candidates appeared to Paris on Mount Ida, in the climactic moment that is the crux of the tale. I'm sure there will be many a nay sayer, but I believe the MGS digital comic from Konami is the first real shot in the comic revolution! A few years ago I was giving a talk at a convention and made the statement that in 10 years comics printed on paper would be defunct, not surprisingly the crowd booed, as many of you reading this probably are now..
No matter it's evolution, and one that 100 old-school fans linking hands will not stop. Its always been a case of finding the new ground, if you start animating and laying voice acting down, it's a cartoon, not a comic.. Apart from not being comicky its damn expensive etc etc. How would people read them? Comics are portable, no one wants to read comics on their TV, or be stuck in front of their PC. Well today's tech is making it possible to have portability and give a quality platform for viewing, and we have only just begun.
Well I'm picking up the new flag, moving forward. Christopher Koelle [blog] Frank Reilly. The Artist As Illustrator Frank Joseph Reilly was born in the heart of New York City, August 21 1906. The son of a former actor and Broadway stage manager, Reilly undoubtedly learned the value of preparation, order, and practice early in life. As a pupil at the Art Students League, he studied drawing with Bridgeman for three years and painting with DuMond for a year and a half. When Reilly left school to officially enter the professional world, he had already been receiving assignments for advertising and editorial artwork as a freelance artist. Throughout the years Reilly accumulated an impressive list of clients who sought him out for the quality of his work and his impeccable professionalism. He painted covers for most of the leading magazines of the time in addition to story illustration.
Famed illustrator Dean Cornwell often used Reilly students to assist him in the production of various murals. Pixila. Pior oberson character artist. Josef Albers. Josef Albers (/ˈælbərz, ˈɑːl-/; German: [ˈalbɐs]; March 19, 1888 – March 25, 1976)[1] was a German-born American artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and in the United States, formed the basis of some of the most influential and far-reaching art education programs of the twentieth century. Life and work[edit] Albers enrolled as a student in the preliminary course (Vorkurs) of Johannes Itten at the Weimar Bauhaus in 1920. Although Albers had studied painting, it was as a maker of stained glass that he joined the faculty of the Bauhaus in 1922, approaching his chosen medium as a component of architecture and as a stand-alone art form.[4] The director and founder of the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius, asked him in 1923 to teach in the preliminary course ‘Werklehre' of the department of design to introduce newcomers to the principles of handicrafts, because Albers came from that background and had appropriate practice and knowledge.
