And while Google Glass aims to bring our social interactions into a head-mounted display, the lab's newest project is actually a contact lens. No, Google isn't going to let you post Facebook updates from your cornea--these lenses could one day help people with diabetes more easily track their sugar levels. According to the International Diabetes Federation, one in ten people worldwide will have diabetes by 2035. Those staggering numbers are enough to cause plenty of concern, but people suffering from diabetes are also forced to spend every day pricking their fingers to check blood sugar levels. Google[x] wants to make the process simpler. The smart contact lens uses an embedded wireless chip and sensor to detect glucose levels in the wearer's tears once per second. Despite how interesting the technology behind Google Glass may be, the hardware isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing.
Thankfully, Google has finally unveiled its initial offering of prescription frames for Google Glass that not only make them more attractive, but also opens up an official way for those who require corrective lenses to enjoy the wearable. Available for $225 each, the Isabelle Olsson-designed frames come in four different styles and each are made out of titanium. The actual Google Glass unit bolts onto the frames, so while it would still be obvious that you have a small computer strapped to your head, they do appear more normal looking than the lense-free frames that have been available.
Prescription lenses are not included with the cost of the frames and you'll have to work with your optometrist or another eye care professional to obtain them. Google has partnered with vision care provider VSP to provide subsidized frames and lenses.

The second annual event, to be held April 5 at local meet-ups around the world, is inspired by the YouTube gaming show TableTop hosted by Wil Wheaton on the Geek & Sundry entertainment network, co-founded by Day. The inaugural TableTop Day last March featured more than 3,100 organized events in 64 countries, and Day was "bowled over" by the response to the event, says the actress and Internet personality. "And we hope to at least double that this year.
