Google Now Recovers Apple's Siri Fumble. Business Insider. Ozmota: another mobile social networking effort. 29 January '08, 11:16am Follow We often hear about mobile social networking companies launching. A few examples are Zingku (Bought by Google), Loopt, Berlin based Aki Aki, Helio, Moco Space, Denmark based Zyb, Bluepulse and Frengo but I’m sure there are countless others. You can imagine that I was skeptical when I heard about the soon to launch Ozmota. They are based in Barcelona, Spain with R&D in Australia and a focus on Europe and Asia. Ozmota’s slogan ‘Anything in life gets better when you share it’ surely doesn’t count for money, girlfriends and underwear. “Ozmota’s slogan ‘Anything in life gets better when you share it’ surely doesn’t count for money, girlfriends and underwear” Now it is easy to make fun of a website of a company that hasn’t even launched officially but in all honesty I do think they have stumbled on a huge opportunity.

The amount of data in our world has been exploding, and analyzing large data sets—so-called big data—will become a key basis of competition, underpinning new waves of productivity growth, innovation, and consumer surplus, according to research by MGI and McKinsey's Business Technology Office. Leaders in every sector will have to grapple with the implications of big data, not just a few data-oriented managers.

The increasing volume and detail of information captured by enterprises, the rise of multimedia, social media, and the Internet of Things will fuel exponential growth in data for the foreseeable future. MGI studied big data in five domains—healthcare in the United States, the public sector in Europe, retail in the United States, and manufacturing and personal-location data globally. Big data can generate value in each. For example, a retailer using big data to the full could increase its operating margin by more than 60 percent. 1. 2. Podcast 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Object moved. As companies begin to refocus on growth, innovation has once again become a priority: in a recent McKinsey Global Survey, 84 percent of executives say innovation is extremely or very important to their companies’ growth strategy. The results also show that the approach companies use to generate good ideas and turn them into products and services has changed little since before the crisis, and not because executives thought what they were doing worked perfectly.

Further, many of the challenges—finding the right talent, encouraging collaboration and risk taking, organizing the innovation process from beginning to end—are remarkably consistent. Indeed, surveys over the past few years suggest that the core barriers to successful innovation haven’t changed, and companies have made little progress in surmounting them. More positively, the results also suggest some ways that companies can become more successful at innovation. Growth and innovation Managing innovation Going to market Looking ahead.
