Google to Partner with Sprint for Mobile Payments on Thursday?

Bloomberg is reporting that Google and Sprint will be launching a contact-less payment system this Thursday based on near-field communication, or NFC, technology. Google’s Nexus S 4G handset that’s available from Sprint already has NFC technology built into it, so most of the heavy lifting needs to be done on the retail side with NFC-equipped point-of-sale terminals. Bloomberg contends that Google may roll out the new payment service in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C. at first, according to a few of its sources. Google’s certainly rolling something out in New York on Thursday, as I’ve been invited by Google to attend a “partner event to experience our latest innovations,” at noon. When I pressed Google’s PR rep to tell me—off the record—what the event was about to see if it’d be worth my while to travel all the way from Boston to attend, I was told—besides, “No.” http://techland.time.com/2011/05/24/google-to-partner-with-sprint-for-mobile-payments-on-thursday/

Longtime fans of Apple’s iPod nano lamented a major change in its radical sixth-generation redesign: the absence of a video camera like the one present on the previous-generation model. Apple may be prepared to change that if a Taiwanese Apple blog is correct. The current sixth-generation iPod nano was introduced last September. It trades the rectangular design and click wheel of previous models for an entirely square design that featured an icon-driven touch screen interface reminiscent of that found on the iPod touch.

Over the last year or so I've noticed an irritating phenomenon developing. I've seen a repetitive pattern of programmers dressing their resumes with technologies that they don't really know, but have merely touched on. While this seems to be happening with many languages, the most commonly violated language is JavaScript. You Don't Know That You Don't Know It The reason for this is that just about every web developer comes across the need for JavaScript at one point or another. With a lack of understanding, the most common approach to learning JavaScript is to search for code samples case by case and perform some quick copy/paste. http://www.w2lessons.com/2011/04/you-dont-know-javascript.html

Matthijs R. Koot's notebook: 1 Database Containing 35.000.000 Google Profiles. Implications?

UPDATE 2012-02-16: raver1975 released a SQL database w/35M Google Profiles as .torrent on The Pirate Bay. Nice one! UPDATE 2011-06-10: Central question in the Google discussion is whether mass-aggregation of profile data by unknown third parties is considered acceptable.
