Plus Black Diamond launches into song with winter’s approach and Tailfeather struts its stuff with an eye-catching business piece… A new brand of men’s carry gets ready to take flight Founded in 2013, Jbird Collective is a young brand keen to stretch its wings and judging by the Kickstarter campaign for its Resin Collection and associated accessories the maiden flight is going to be successful. The Resin Collection includes three pieces, the TechPack backpack, the Bloke briefcase and the Kilo carryall which can attach to the pack and briefcase. During the Carryology shop visit with Barrett last year, I was extremely interested in the wide range of his handmade pieces of artwork.

Most of all, I was enamored with the triad combination of his expert and meticulous handmade process, the buttery US vegetable tanned leathers, and the antique liner fabrics (from Japan, France and the US). The wallet that initially jumped out at me was the Disciple wallet, in russet leather. The construction and closure method was super clever…however, it hit only 2 of my 3 favorite aspects, missing the crazy interesting interior lining. I immediately asked Barrett about adding some of this beautiful fabric lining into the Disciple. Nope. Fast forward, Saturday October 5th, Barrett Alley just released the Reuben wallet. In order to circumvent the unwieldy--and largely unnecessary--bulk of traditional billfolds, the London-based designer took to toting around a thin, plastic travel-card holder stuffed with bills and credit cards, but the flimsy thing couldn’t handle the strain (and as I’ve actually done the exact same thing, I can vouch for the fact he’s not alone, and those cheapies split at the slightest give). Huang needed a stylish solution--so he developed one himself. Using leather was a no-brainer--it’s durable, with a familiar look and feel in the world of male accessories--but construction required in-depth consideration. “When I looked into the making of leather wallets, I noticed that it requires a lot of man hours cutting and stitching a lot of materials, which sometimes results in a lot of waste,” he says.
