Instagram. Preston Guild - Guild Marathon and Half Marathon. Viewed by many as ‘the one not to miss’, the Guild Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 28 October 2012. A great course has been carefully planned for Preston’s first ever marathon starting and finishing in the city centre.

The event will include a Mini Marathon (aprox 4-5k) for young people aged 11-17, along with street races for younger children organised through local schools. The route will take in the outlying areas of Penwortham, Cottam, Lea Town, Salwick and Treales, before returning to the city centre. Roads will be closed to accommodate the route and the expected high turn-out.

A full route map is available now for the Marathon and Half Marathon. There will be a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed with street entertainers and music to keep spectators entertained. A Guide To Training For A Marathon Marathon Training Books Many runners mistakenly believe a dream of completing a marathon is an unattainable goal. The marathon distance of 26.2 total miles may seem insurmountable but the truth is many runner attempt and complete marathons each year. These marathon finishers are not only seasoned athletes who have been training all of their lives for these events. Many first time marathon finishers are actually amateur athletes who may not have any special training or running experience prior to deciding to train for and compete in a marathon.

The first step in any marathon training program should be to consult with your doctor to ensure you are healthy enough to begin training for a marathon. The next step in any marathon training process should be to select an upcoming marathon in which you wish to compete. Another factor to consider when selecting a marathon in which to compete is the terrain of the course. Click Here to view the DVD. How To Train For Your First Marathon (Even If You're Out Of Shape) Facebook. Marathon Training. Marathon training will be challenging, but should be fun and enjoyable. Finishing a marathon is an accomplishment that less than 1% of people in the world can say they have achieved. You are about to be one of them! Are you a beginning runner? Already a runner? Haven’t run in a long time?

Either way, you can finish a marathon. Motivation: Building mental stamina is essential. Goals: Finish time goals, weight loss goals, “just finish” goals…we all have a reason(s) for wanting to run a marathon. Wear the right gear: Treat your feet to a good pair of running shoes (or three!). Nutrition: Carbohydrates provide the fuel runners need. Recovery: Obviously, it is important to run as marathon training, but recovery is equally important. Hydration: On runs of an hour or more, carry fluids with you and consume 6-8 oz. every 20 minutes. Avoiding Injury: Use your non-running days to rest and recover. Pre-Training: It’s also a good idea at this point to go ahead and select a marathon and get signed up! Running Activity 5.99 mi.
