Self-employed poacher? Poaching is where you 'steal' work from your employer by going direct to the client.

Self-employed poacher?

This is good because you get more work; this is bad because you annoy those that employed you and kills off opportunities for future work with them. I am self-employed but only for a very short time - I have learnt so much during this first year. One of the most difficult things to get to grips with was not poaching work from others while proactively seeking much needed work.

I'm still not sure I got it right. Initially I was so keen to find work I'd do anything to show my capabilities, learn new skills and win new work. However, after a few jobs I became aware of the politics of being seen to circumvent implicit loyalties and unwritten contracts between a weekend's employer and me as a freelance work-starved employee. I say double-cross, but perhaps it's a natural consequence of capitalist society, of competition. If all's fair in love and war, what's fair in business? Drupal. We’re seeing Raspberry Jams pop up all over the world these days: Eben and I spent three days at the Jam in Tokyo last month (pictures and presentations from that will be coming soon), and an afternoon at the Silicon Valley Jam the week before that.

Raspberry Jam, Lilongwe, Malawi

We see video from a lot of these events, but this video, sent to me by John Cass from Young Innovators in Lilongwe, Malawi, is my favourite so far. It was recorded by a Malawi TV station, and ended up on national network TV. There were nearly 100 attendees, a whole lot of Scratch games programming, some brewing, an electric motorbike being tracked by GPS, music-making, and much more. John and the Young Innovators team have been loaning Pis to interested people in Malawi, as well as donating them to schools and kids’ groups. I have a Raspberry Pi - this post is about beginning to explore it's control capabilities using the General Purpose Input Output (GPIO) port and is aimed at total beginners assuming that you have already got your Raspberry Pi up and running as described in my earlier post Fire up your Raspberry Pi.

Using Raspberry Pi GPIO Interface

Hardware The GPIO port is the two rows of pins coming out of the black plastic header shown running horizontally along the top of the board shown above. Each pin has a number with pin one identified as P1. Each pin does a specific job such as provide a voltage, ground, data input or output. There are different types of input/output that may be used depending on your requirements.
