Country of Origin- Labelling Requirements for Textile Goods. Embattled local clothing and textile manufacturers have received a measure of support through the enactment of new labelling requirements aimed at discouraging the importation of cheap textile goods. The new regulations were promulgated in the Government Gazette (No. 29480 of 14 December 2006, as Notice 1831 of 2006) and came into force on 14 April 2007, having been made in terms of the Merchandise Marks Act, No. 17 of 1941. The term "textile goods" has been given a wide definition, with the requirements applying not only to textiles but also clothing, shoes and leather goods (as provided for in the Harmonized System Tariff).

In terms of the regulations, the importation into or sale in South Africa of textile goods is prohibited unless they are marked or labelled in a manner that is clearly visible and easy to read. The country in which the item was made or produced must also be indicated. Spoor & Fisher [Back] FS_clothing.pdf (application/pdf Object)

Fashion 2.0 | Top 10 Fashion Films of the Season. NEW YORK, United States — “Are we failing to fulfil the potential of fashion film?” Asked Quynh Mai’s Op-Ed for BoF earlier this year, citing misallocated budgets, uncompelling content, poor distribution strategies and established power structures that favour still photographers. Indeed, it’s fair to say that, while seasonal fashion shorts have become an essential part of the marketing toolbox for megabrands and emerging labels alike, far too many of these films are unimaginative ‘behind the scenes’ affairs, piggybacked on expensive stills shoots, that ultimately fail to engage sizable audiences.

But anyone starting to doubt the potential of short fashion films distributed online need only look at the results of this season’s Dior video, “Secret Garden – Versailles,” shot at the Château de Versailles by image-making maestros Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. It wasn’t only well-funded epics that struck a chord this season, however. 1. 2. Kenzo Mens F/W 2012 – “Watermarked” by DIS.
