http://anotherramblingteacher.blogspot.com/2011/01/student-perspective-no-longer-living.html?spref=tw There are some days when teaching is merely a series of small battles. With management, with colleagues, with pupils, with parents even; with computers which get huffy at exactly the same time you want them to be your friend. I had some of those battles this week in preparing for Episode Three of Inanimate Alice. It seems that every computer suite in the school was overbooked for weeks ahead and the fabulous notebooks we used last week were nowhere to be seen. For two days, all of my preparation had to stay on hold. But did I lose heart?

The Student Perspective - No Longer Living Next Door to Alice- Week Three

Editorial by Ian Harper MINNEAPOLIS: The National Education Technology Plan in the US has prescribed a wholesale technological transformation for education. Yet, adults — parents and teachers alike — often fear what’s “out there” on the Internet, whether “they” are bullies, predatory stalkers or pornography.

JVS-ITYC PROGRAM

http://jvs-itycprogram.blogspot.com/ The instruction was to come up with a list of 5 questions that their group had about Diego Rivera, more specifically, questions that would not be answered from the text material. The following is a list of questions that we came up with – please keep in mind that the students are greatly diverse in their communications and literary skills. I was thinking that maybe we could have you choose a few questions that you think would stimulate discussion between your students and mine,… and I will have the kids who posed those questions, participate in the Skype discussion .. what do you think?

Analysis and Argument: Producer of Inanimate Alice Responds to ENGL 102 Students

Hi All, I’m Ian, the producer of the Inanimate Alice series. I work with Kate and Chris in developing the overall scope of the project and figuring out how we get the world to hear about it. Kate once said that she thought of me as the guy at the back smoking my virtual cigar while doing deals…or something like that.
Yesterday, in class, students were given the task of creating the next episode of Inanimate Alice. Students could create whatever kind of story they preferred, but had to consider two things. One : grammar spelling, punctuation, apostrophes, etc....). Two : transliteracy. As readers of Inanimate Alice , we had to analyse the role of sound, image, interaction and text in the development of the narrative. As writers now, students included these multimodal aspects in their creations. http://engl-102.blogspot.com/2009/12/lecture-25-inanimate-alice-episode-5.html
