" TARDIS Eruditorum, currently the main feature on this site, is an ongoing critical history of Doctor Who. Posts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are, unless something unusual is going on, TARDIS Eruditorum posts, and the project is expected to run roughly into the summer of 2014.
The subtitle of "A Psychochronography in Blue" refers to the idea of psychochronography, an offshoot of the artistic concept of psychogeography. Psychogeography is a practice originally developed by the Situationist International as part of their efforts to forcibly dismantle the established social order. Psychogeography is the study of how physical spaces impact social, cultural, and personal lives. Psychochronography applies this notion to our internal landscape.
TARDIS Eruditorum meanders through British history starting with what might be called the post-postwar period. Its goal is to tell the story of Doctor Who as a cultural phenomenon. The stories are magnificently crafted, the characters are rich, hilarious, and unique, and the images are lovingly rendered.
Without fail, John Ratzenberger’s iconic voice makes a cameo in some boisterous character. Even if you haven’t seen every film they’ve made (I refuse to watch Cars or its preposterous sequel), there is a consistency and quality to Pixar’s productions that is hard to deny. Popular culture is often dismissed as empty “popcorn” fare. Buried within that constant and complex goodness is a hidden message. Now, this is not your standard “Disney movies hide double-entendres and sex imagery in every film” hidden message. What if I told you they were preparing us for the future? Before we begin, I ask you to watch the video below. People love these films. To understand Pixar films, one must first to go back to Disney before Toy Story was released – to be precise, The Lion King.

So it will take time for us all to see the problem that “adolescence” has become. I’d had no focus myself on the institution of adolescence — “the artificial extension of childhood past puberty” — until I heard Shelton White from Harvard talk about it. I’d been slow to see its implications.
Some things, a friend used to say, are “too obvious.” A century ago, in the interest of “child welfare,” America created what became this “separate society for the young.” Robert Epstein, a Harvard-educated psychologist whose “Teen 2.0” lays out the case against adolescence, does not disagree about the moronic behavior of some teens. But he says adolescence “infantilizes” young people. So, to the implications. In the past, you were an adult at puberty. To absorb those millions of teenagers, America vastly expanded high school. Secondary vocational schools have been closed. Rising to the occasion It was not always like this.

Journey - Once More Into The Desert. The desert awaits: a lonely, confusing, disorientating wilderness. That, however, was last year. Two hours isn't a particularly long time to dedicate to a game, even for me, so - bouyed by the game's winter promotion and with hopefully the notion that I'd find some of the experience at least a little bit unfamiliar, I recently fired Journey back up.
Flipping over to my 'alternative' PSN moniker (one that hadn't played Journey, so as to be as fresh as possible) and selecting the icon from the XMB, I settled back, excitedly hunched over the DualShock, ready for that beautiful attract screen to stir into action. Oh, the memories. I was staring at that hill in the middle distance, punctuated with the markers, the wind whipping at the material flapping in the breeze. The desert, so pristine and delicate and yet dotted with the gravestones of travellers long lost. Some things you simply never forget. And then, it happened. Thatgamecompany | TGC. The facts are these: Joss Whedon is lauded as being one of the most forward-thinking show creators and writers currently wielding his craft today. The famous exchange between Whedon and a reporter – Why do you write these strong female characters?
Because you’re still asking me that question – is bandied around the internet on a frequent basis. (Although this exchange was of his own imagining.) He’s praised for his interesting and multiform characters. He’s earned the moniker of feminist seemingly through just the creation of strong female characters alone. Buffy the Vampire Slayer The infamous Season 5 Buffybot was Whedon’s winking homage to The Stepford Wives, an automaton that existed literally to please men.
Buffy, for all her killing vamps and breaking stuff, is rather a weak character. And Buffy is textually weak in all her relationships. And this is how it goes, time and time again on the show. Jon Lee Anderson, an American journalist (I guess), is talking in his article to the New Yorker about the recent tragedy in the Connecticut school. The article is entitled “GUNS AND THE LIMITS OF SHAME” and says in the very beginning “What does it take for a society to be sickened by its own behavior and to change its attitudes?”. Apparently Mr Anderson was ashamed and embarrassed of being American because of terrible gun violence such as the recent one.
Why ashamed? Because people outside the United States would have the impression that his beloved country is in fact such a violent country where people shoot small children at school. Not just that. He also talks about a few other examples in other countries which are not very well received by other people. When did a majority of South African Boers realize that Apartheid was reprehensible?
