People's Produce Project | Healthy Works

http://www.healthyworks.org/healthy-foods/peoples-produce The People's Produce Project brings healthy foods to residents, businesses, and schools in Southeastern San Diego. It helps local residents rally to create their own farmers market and community garden . Did you know that there is a higher rate of most diseases in Southeastern San Diego than in the rest of San Diego County? Part of the reason for this is that the area lacks access to healthy foods, and poor nutrition is a key risk factor for developing obesity and other chronic diseases. In addition to creating a local farmers market and community garden, residents can attend free healthy cooking classes and receive a locally-based cook book. The classes and cook book help ensure that people know how to use the new healthy foods in their environment.

Broadly speaking, human trafficking pertains to the use of a human being(s) as a commodity for the profit of other(s). Therefore, human trafficking is widely considered to be a modern-day form of slavery where, in the same way that merchandise is appropriated and transported across territory, whether nationally or trans-nationally, human beings are obtained and retained against their will for the financial benefit of others. http://www.sandiego.edu/peacestudies/tbi/

Drumbeat San Diego organizers started meeting in August of 2010. We came together because we believe in a free and open internet, and we wanted to create an event in San Diego that brought people together . We were thrilled to see technologists, engaged citizens, artists, filmmakers and activists all at the same event on February 5th, 2011. The event offered proof of the value of bringing together diverse groups to learn from each other and build solutions for San Diego! The event offered a whole spectrum of community projects that were enhaced by the use of technology and by a positive spirit of collaboration from the participants. Some of the spaces included open data visualization and discussion, open source music and video experimentation, and using technology to enhance our community's connection with local farms and farmer's markets.
