How we turn $199 Chromebooks into Ubuntu-based code learning machines for kids. By Tom Preston-Werner At Codestarter, we’re on a mission to put a developer-friendly laptop into the hands of every kid that wants to learn how to code.

Since we rely on donations to make this happen, the less expensive the laptop, the more of them we can deliver. With this in mind, I set out to find a laptop that was both low cost AND high quality. My goal was to find a computer that I wouldn’t mind using as my own primary development machine. That meant it had to have an excellent keyboard, good trackpad, solid build quality, fast processor, at least 2GB of RAM, and a nice screen. After a bit of online research, an unlikely contender emerged: Chromebooks. A few hours later I was at Best Buy, staring down at a $199 Acer C720 Chromebook (the least expensive model available). Here was a $199 laptop that, for its build quality and feature set, could easily have cost twice that. Here are the requirements and what we did to make them possible: It must run Ubuntu. It must support Minecraft.

The orbital airship, also called the space blimp, is a proposed space transportation system that carries payloads to and from low Earth orbit.

Orbital airship

It is intended to achieve orbital altitude and orbital velocity using low thrust rocket propulsion by flying in the manner of an airship rather than a rocket, employing buoyancy and aerodynamic lift rather than vertical thrust to sustain flight during its ascent.[1] JP Aerospace’s Airship To Orbit[edit] In the Airship To Orbit (ATO) design envisioned by JP Aerospace, there are three components. A conventional airship (“Ascender”) lifts payloads up to 30 to 43 kilometers above the ground – roughly the maximum altitude a conventional airship can achieve. At this altitude the second component, a floating docking station (“Dark Sky Station”), acts as a resupply station for the third stage.

Early development stages of the station and the airships will be powered by fuel cells. Similar proposals[edit] Potential problems[edit] Buoyancy[edit] Size[edit] NASA’s Kepler telescope doubles number of known planets outside solar system. These new planets are all in multi-planet systems and are relatively modest in size — most of them smaller than Neptune.

Four of the new planets are about twice the size of Earth and are in orbits that put them in what is considered the habitable zone of their stars, at a distance that could allow water to be in a liquid state at the surface. There are surely more habitable-zone planets out there, scientists said in the teleconference. Small planets in very tight orbits are the ones most likely to be detected by Kepler, which looks for the dimming of starlight as a planet passes, or “transits,” the disk of the star as seen from the telescope. The star, planet and telescope have to be aligned, a matter of pure chance: Planets that are orbiting at a great distance from the parent star are less likely to be lined up propitiously. The new studies looked at only the first two years of Kepler’s data collection. The latter technique is the one that Kepler employs. The Scale of the Universe 2.

Guide To R/C Flying: Quadcopters, Helicopters, and Planes

I was amazed at just how complicated things have recently become, and just how hard it was to get simple answers to seemingly basic questions. Hoping to save others from the horrible frustration of this, I've written this still evolving and expanding document on the topic. Since I am not an expert I may make errors.
