De estar viva, esta gran artista y luchadora social cumpliría 140 años. El logotipo del megabuscador, que ayer celebró el Día de la Tierra, se convirtió en un lienzo interactivo en el que cada letra de su nombre está transformado en unas lindas flores en forma de coloridos cubos. A un lado aparece la protagonista del homenaje, quien viste un kimono, el atuendo tradicional de Japón. Shoen Uemura, cuyo verdadero nombre fue Shoen Tsune, es reconocida, sobre todo, por sus pinturas de mujeres hermosas (bijinga) en estilo nihonga. También dejó como legado sus numerosos trabajos sobre la historia y tradición de su país. Criada en un ambiente netamente femenino, debido a la ausencia de su padre muerto, Shoen dibujaba y exhibía una importante cantidad de obras sobre personas desde niña. Su obra fue dominada por los temas y elementos del teatro tradicional Noh y las imágenes de mujeres hermosas.

Mmmm, now I want an orange AND one of these paintings by Woodstock, New York based artist/educator Karen O’Neil. I’ve been wanting to get back into painting lately {more on that later} and I find these little still life pieces ridiculously inspiring.
