Summary 29 October, 2013: TERI- BCSD organised its annual flagship event - The 11th Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development (earlier known as World CEO Sustainability Summit) in Mumbai.
The summit witnessed participation from over 120 delegates, including Indian and global business and thought leaders who deliberated the challenges faced by businesses in the context of mainstreaming environmental and social sustainability in their business strategy. At the Inaugural session, Dr R K Pachauri sensitized the business community about the severity and extent of impact that the human race will have to face if businesses don’t realize their responsibility towards the environment and society.

Building Resilient Cities. Semarang, Indonesia Much of the Rockefeller Foundation’s in-depth learning on resilience has come from our Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network, also known as ACCCRN, which supports city-wide strategies, and specific investments that advance physical, social, and community resilience against rapid urbanization and climate change.
Starting with 10 cities in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, and now expanding to more than 50 cities, ACCCRN is leading over 30 new interventions in areas such as land use planning, drainage and flood management, emergency response systems, ecosystem strengthening, and disease surveillance. These interventions demonstrate practical ways to build the resilience of systems, sectors, and communities to climate impacts, like rising sea-levels, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and increasing temperatures. These events are only some of the latest in a series of extreme weather emergencies in North America, and around the world, characterized by their growing severity and frequency of impact. All send a clear message that we need to better prepare our cities to withstand the impacts of severe weather and climate change, even while we strengthen our work to slow and reverse global warming.
