"Eww" by Kotex: There's mold in the Tampons. “Eww”; it’s a reaction we hear a lot from people who are learning about the concept of reusable menstrual products for the first time.
Frankly, we aren’t surprised that people are uncomfortable with the idea, given the amount of fear and shame that has followed menstruation around, pretty much since the dawn of humanity. With all the negative advertising used to sell conventional menstrual products, the culture of silence surrounding menstruation, and the apparent lack of interest from the scientific and medical community in regards to menstrual issues, there’s a lot of baggage and misinformation to overcome in order for people to get comfortable with their reproductive systems and their byproducts.
I’m frankly encouraged and impressed by the amount of people who DO use reusable menstrual products! And yet the “Eww” factor always manages to baffle me. Well guess what, folks? For most menstrual products that’s not necessarily the end of the world. Tampon images via parrforthecourse.com. Parr For The Course: The tale of the moldy tampon. Um.
Holy...wow. Has anyone else ever had this happen before? I just found a MOLDY TAMPON in a brand new box of Kotex Tampons. Yeah, you read that right - moldy. Straight out of the box, in it's sealed little packaging ... moldy. See for yourself! Can you even BELIEVE THAT??? And to think, if I hadn't accidentally popped half the tampon out of the applicator while I was getting it out of the packaging, I would have NEVER KNOWN. Needless to say, Kotex is about to get an earful. I decided to email Kotex because I felt the pictures were an important part of my story. Thanks for contacting us about your experience with KOTEX® SECURITY® tampons. We understand how distressing it can be to find mold on a product that is used for personal hygiene and apologize for your concern. How Gynecologists Talk—And Don't Talk—About Sex - Lifestyle. The worst gynecologist I ever had sat me down in his examination room and asked me one question about my sexual activity: "Do you have a boyfriend?
" I did. "Good," he announced, in a tone that insinuated some moral failure in single women everywhere. That sort of judgment of my relationship status would feel uncomfortable coming from anyone. Coming from an older man tasked with probing my reproductive system, it felt downright skeevy. A few months later, my boyfriend and I broke up. My bad ob-gyn isn't the only one who doesn't know how to talk about sex. The results are troubling: In a survey of about a thousand American ob-gyns, only 63 percent discuss sexual activity with their patients. Some ob-gyns are more open about discussing sexual issues than others—namely, younger, female physicians. Maybe that's part of the reason that most women prefer to see female gynecologists—in one study, a full 83 percent of patients chose female doctors over male ones. Why You Shouldn't Have "The Talk" with Your Tween.
I have an amazing power that was only recently discovered.
I don’t twitch when the word puberty is said. I not only don’t twitch, I get happy and love to talk about it with parents and girls. Girls only. I have no idea about the boys.
