I first heard Electric Mary maybe ten or twelve years back when a mate tossed me a copy of one of the albums and stated he thought I’d dig ‘em. I did. Roaring guitars, blunt-force trauma bass and drums with an effortless swing, combined with Rusty’s gravelly rock’n’roll rasp vocals, there’s plenty to like too. The band’s new release Mother, their fourth album and first new music in almost five years, contains only eight songs. For the gruff-voiced lead singer, it’s not the number of songs that counts – it’s whether they’re any good or not. “This time we only did eight songs,” he says. “But we stretched it to the forty minute mark. It might seem to be a gamble on the band’s part to drop an album that just crosses the magic 40 minute mark.

“We live in a world now where there’s a lot of music, man. The eight songs that make up Mother range from straight up hard rockers like first single ‘Woman’ to more expansive brooding tracks like the epic blues ballad ‘Sorry Baby’ and the big-hearted ‘It’s Alright’, a song that looks at personal struggle that can often lay hidden within. Electric Mary Brings The Power To Fringe. Melbourne rock powerhouse Electric Mary release their new record 'Mother' in February, just days before they light up the stage at Adelaide Fringe. 'Mother' is the fourth studio album from Electric Mary and their first release since the 'Alive In Hell Dorado' album in 2016.

Vocalist, frontman and founder for the band, Rusty Brown says they spent a lot more time in pre-production for 'Mother' to get the songs how he wanted them. “We wanted more depth on this record, so we made sure that it wasn't just full of V8 songs, there were cruising songs as well,” Rusty says. “The best way I can explain that is when we went to pre-production, I said to everyone 'best idea wins'. So whatever that best idea was at the time, that's how our DNA felt at the time and that's what we put on vinyl.” Themusic.com.

Album Review: Electric Mary – Mother. Electric Mary Unleashing Mother. Electric Mary: Mother. Every track is a sure-fire scorcher With all the fuss and ado being made about every young “saviours of rock” band that springs up fully-formed every 18 months or so, one thing often gets overlooked – the dozens, nay hundreds, of old school rockers who’ve been keeping the flame alive since forever.

Electric Mary is one of those bands, and Mother is cast-iron proof they haven’t forsaken the spirit of rock and roll. “Gimme Love” enters the fray with a big blues-rock swagger, the perfect accompaniment to Rusty Brown’s warm rasp, winding up with a ripping guitar solo that takes up about half the track. The next song steps up the pace and the rock factor as Electric Mary pulls on a different guise with every track, from foot-stomping rockers like “The Way You Make Me Feel” to the sprawling blues-rock ballad “Sorry Baby” and the free-styling “It’s Alright”.
