Armoured Earth. Empire by Armoured Earth (EP) Armoured Earth is a four-piece metal band from Melbourne with a good history of live gigs across the city in the pre quarantine days.
Their new release Empire is a quick lesson on less is more. At under 25 minutes for 5 songs you can easily listen to this album cover to cover. It’s a fast & heavy album and a great testament to the Australian metal scene. Production quality is also right up there. The album kicks off with Over The Edge, a little under 4 minutes with the toms getting a thorough workout, there’s great drum work across this entire album. Like Soilworks 2010 album The Panic Broadcast there’s a good mix of clean/coarse vocals throughout the album. Armoured Earth return with a bludgeoning five track EP. May 27, 2020 After circulating the scene for a few years, Melbourne based metal act Armoured Earth are back with their second release; the bludgeoning five track EP ‘Empire.’
Overall, the lads are delivering a really cool sound, with vocals perfectly akin to the likes of Randy Blythe and impressive rhythm sections, however, it is slightly hard to lump Armoured Earth into a genre. While ‘Over the Edge’ delivers an old school trash vibe and Black MEtal tinged blast-beats, songs such as ‘Degradation to Vanity’ are more so dictated by epic guitar solos and flashy riffs. ‘Fracture’ Delivers the most brutal dose on what is an already extremely heavy EP. The bounciness of the song’s opening will make for an impressive spectacle live, as will the pre-chorus breakdown. With ‘Empire’ highlighting the most refined and professional release from Armoured Earth to date, there’s no telling what the future has in store for these Melbourne up and comers. 4/5 Independent Reviewed by Alex Callan. Damn, what an accomplished and super heavy release from a Melbourne band I had never heard previously. Those kinds of shocks are amazing, this is a band that sounds like they have toured worldwide in massive festivals and playing at stadiums to tens of thousands of fans. The music is confident and well written melodic metal of the highest order, it definitely has strong echoes of Lamb of God, System of a Down and Pantera.
But with an original twist and all the killer guitar work and vocal gymnastics, you could want. Now, as readers know I am not a huge fan of any clean vocals, but it works so well for this band.
