Apocalyptica Release Second Of Three New Classical Instrumental Tracks Beethoven 5th. Photo by Ville Juurikkala The Finnish four piece Apocalyptica announce the release of their very own Cello-Metal reinterpretation of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s legendary 5th Symphony. Eicca Toppinen says: “The beginning of the fifth symphony by Beethoven is one of the most iconic classical themes ever written. The process of rewriting and transforming it into a new perspective was a challenging but a really joyful ride. Beethoven was one of the first “metal-heads” in classical music which made it even more enjoyable to work out his theme with more modern sound and approach.”

The Finnish cello-rock quartet Apocalyptica have once again partnered up with some of the biggest names in rock music to deliver their new single “I’ll Get Through It”. The song, written for the band by American award-winning songwriter Diane Warren, features Franky Perez – guest vocalist in Apocalyptica’s 2015 record Shadowmaker – as well as Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath on bass guitar.

The track can be found on all digital streaming platforms. Apocalyptica will be touring the US extensively in 2022, as well as playing multiple Northern Summer festivals, among other dates, before hitting Europe with the aptly named “Epic Apocalypse Tour” alongside Epica and Wheel. Apocalyptica debuts new song “Live Or Die” featuring Sabaton’s Joakim Brodén. Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers Apocalyptica have released their brand-new track and music video, “Live Or Die” featuring Sabaton‘s Joakim Brodén via Silver Lining Music. The song, which boasts what is certainly one of the most dynamic liaisons in heavy metal – the spellbinding music of Apocalyptica and the potent, iconic vocals of Sabaton’s Joakim Brodén – is a fierce battle cry focused on the desecration of our planet. “Live Or Die” was composed by Apocalyptica and recorded in Finland with Apocalyptica and Martin Hansen (Scorpions) producing. The video, directed by Ville Juurikkala and filmed in Berlin, Germany on January 25th, is a fiery performance piece that features Brodén on vocals.

Apocalyptica and Sabaton have a new but notable history of collaboration. Most recently, the two bands recorded a version of the 2010 Sabaton track “Angels Calling,” released in November 2019, with a companion music video. Interview with Paavo Lötjönen, from Cello Metallers APOCALYPTICA. Paavo, first and foremost, congratulations on the new album Cell-0, which was released on the 10th of January. It’s an absolute monster of an album with a mix of solemn mood tracks, heavy songs, and everything in between. It takes the listener through a crazy ride of emotions, highs and lows. It’s Apocalyptica’s first full instrumental album since Reflections in 2003, so 17 years. Tell us more about the new album, Cell-0.

Even we consider ourselves as a metal band, this album is difficult to categorize as to what kind of genre it is… There is a lot of metal and heavy elements, a lot of classical elements, maybe symphonical elements, but it’s not symphonical metal in that normal sense of symphonical metal. Symphonical metal is more like Nightwish. Bombastic, heavy metal and guitar riffs with a orchestration in the background, and one of the opera singers on the top. It’s not the music for doing your everyday things. Most definately. This is not really album which is made for radio. Yeah. Themusic.com. Apocalyptica – Cell-O (2020) This Finnish quartet are noted for their collaborations with the likes of Metallica and Rammstein, boldly welding classical music to metal. This is their 9th album and first fully instrumental album in 17 years. It is their first in 5 years and is self-produced.

It would stand to reason then that their time away from their work has energised and reinvigorated them. Spoiler alert – it has indeed – this is an opus of exceptional musicality and inspirational story telling. This album is not one of singles, but rather, an ebbing and flowing experience that calls out to be enjoyed from start to finish. “Ashes of the Modern World” rose low and slow, an appropriate start to this musical journey. “Cell-O” weighed in at 10 minutes in duration. “Rise” came to the surface with an achingly beautiful and discreet opening. “En Route to Mayhem” was a roadmap for building tension. “Call My Name” made use of some keyboard elements and the percussion was again more obvious. This album is a masterpiece. It is hard to believe that Cell-O is the band’s, or quartets’, ninth studio album in their twenty sixth year of existence. The group is an anomaly within the metal world, but ironically, an anomaly that fits right in. So how does a band like Apocalyptica remain so captivating, exciting and relevant within the Heavy Metal scene? So let’s focus on Cell-O. Of the nine tracks ‘Ashes of the Modern World‘ and ‘En Route to Mayhem‘ stand out for me, and this is because of the dynamics of the tracks, and in particular the tempo changes on top of the melodies.

The album really is a strong piece of art that could easily support videos, or visual representations for each song. Apocalyptica – Cell-0 tracklisting 1. Like this: Like Loading... Apocalyptica – Paavu Lotjonen ‘Mind Candy For Music Fans’ I was fortunate enough to catch Apocalyptica live for the first time, only a few months ago, at the Sydney Opera House. And I must say, there is nothing that can really prepare you for the intensity and mystique of this outfit live. I was literally blown away, and even though I have been going to metal gigs in Australia and overseas for over thirty years, I have never seen anything like this. Apocalyptica fuse their classical instruments into a juggernaut of heavy metal power. Their individual musicianship, morphed with their symbiotic arrangements, makes for an experience like no other.

I know that I have left my run a bit late to witness this sensation as they have been together for nearly twenty six years and they have eight albums under their belt. They have come a long way from essentially a cello heavy metal covers ensemble, something that could have been a one album project, a gimmick if you will. While it has been five years since the ‘cello metal’ innovators’ last album of original music [Shadowmaker, 2015], they have nonetheless been extremely busy. Cell-O is complex, musically and conceptually. At the outset, it is noteworthy that although an instrumental cello album, Cell-O is far, far from staid or austere. APOCALYPTICA ALBUM. “En Route To Mayhem,” the new music video from Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rock band Apocalyptica, transports the viewer to a fantastical post-humanity future. This imaginary world is barren, dusty, and littered with broken pieces of things once considered essential to humankind: bits of plastic, a teddy bear, crumbling structures, cell phones and computers, bleached bones, and long-forgotten musical instruments. The setting is devoid of mankind, but brimming with the hope of new life; and then one day, thunder, lightning, and one drop at a time, it begins to rain, and Mother Nature steps in. That period of time has found the band nearly constantly touring, however, at some stage, they did find time to head into a studio to record their ninth studio album – Cell-O. It is one of the first things we talk about when HEAVY Magazine gets the opportunity to chat to Paavo Lotjonen and we discuss what the band have been doing over the four years since the last album. “It has been nearly constant touring,” he says. “Since Shadowmaker we did a two-year tour and then nearly straightaway we did the anniversary tour, that tour lasted thirty-two months and we played two hundred and forty shows in forty-seven countries so we have been really busy.”

As we continue to talk about that hectic schedule he tells me that it hasn’t been as bad as many would think. “It wasn’t completely constant touring,” he explains. “Exactly twelve months ago we gave ourselves four months to produce this album and compose the songs.
