Intro | Liverpool Biennial: Festival of Contemporary Art. Submissions. MCLA Gallery 51 mounts between 6-8 professional artist exhibitions per year. As part of MCLA’s Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, the gallery exhibits artwork of regional, national and international mid-career and emerging artists. The gallery reviews artist submissions bi-monthly and responds to submissions within 6 months. Even if an artist’s work is not selected for exhibition, MCLA Gallery 51 will keep submissions on file for consideration for future shows.

In order to submit please follow the guidelines below. Please note that your submission must be complete in order to be reviewed. In order to submit your work for consideration: Images should be formatted and submitted as follows: Turner Prize lifts age limit: "Now is the right moment to make this change" - a-n The Artists Information Company. Tate, the organiser of the Turner Prize, has announced that it will be lifting the under-50 age limit for the 2017 prize shortlist. Artists of any age will now be eligible for the prize from this year onwards. The age limit was introduced in 1991 – the year the prize was won by Anish Kapoor – in order to ensure that the prize reflected contemporary developments in art rather than it being a lifetime achievement award. However, there have been increasing calls for the age limit to be abolished.

Tate Britain director Alex Farquharson, chair of this year’s jury, said of the move: “We have always kept these terms under review and we feel that now is the right moment to make this change. “The Turner Prize has always championed emerging artists — it has never been a prize for long service but for a memorable presentation of work in that year. “Now that its reputation is so firmly established, we want to acknowledge the fact that artists can experience a breakthrough in their work at any age.” Nordic Artists' Centre Dale / Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dale - Nordic Artists' Centre Dale / Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dale.

Paint with the polar bears: Norwegian government launches art foundation and residency on Svalbard. In the Arctic ocean, halfway between Norway and the North Pole, lies an archipelago of four islands called Svalbard, which is home to more polar bears than people. The remote glacial landscape might seem like an unlikely place to grow a contemporary art scene, but on 12 June the Norwegian ministry of culture announced it is launching an art foundation and artist residency in the capital of Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost town, where the sun never sets during summer. There are plans to invite between three and five artists from Norway and abroad to take part every year, as well as foster exchanges with international institutions. The residencies are intended to be “experimental”, says Katya García-Antón, the director of the Office of Contemporary Art Norway (OCA), one of the partner organisations of the project.

“Artists won’t be expected to turn up, make a work and leave. There’s a strong wish that things become more rooted,” she says.

Art Residency for Printmakers - Print Solo. Print Solo artist Franco Marinai has just finished setting up a wonderful studio in Serrazzano, a small Italian village in the heart of the Colline Metallifere ( the Metal Hills), one of the greenest areas of Tuscany. He is offering a unique residency for printmakers, both experienced and beginners.

The residency, very reasonably priced, includes accommodation in a two bedroom apartment located on the top floor of a historic building in Serrazzano and the use of an adjacent printmaking workshop that supports all intaglio techniques and is outfitted with a black and white darkroom for photogravure, photopolymer printing and alternative photographic processes. The residency is immersed into a natural setting that is hard to find nowadays. On a remote hilltop 550 meters above sea level, surrounded by vast forests, the air is as pure as can be, and the silence is terrific.

The apartment is available for 70€ + 10€ per person per day. All info on email: Cheap train tickets, get UK train times & fares | thetrainline. OPEN PORTFOLIO - figbilbao. AITOR LAFUENTE// “COS. The path to a successful art career can be a twisting one, but one commonly traveled route is the artist residency. There are hundreds of residencies out there, ranging from highly prestigious programs that are invitation-only — like those of Artpace, the Walker Art Center, or UCLA’s Hammer Museum, all of which mainly invite established artists to create fully funded projects — to more open, or even experimental, retreats.

Not all residencies are created equal, and while some may help you get a leg up in the art world, you may still have to pay for the opportunity. Programs can be grouped several ways: Some are fully funded without fees; some are partially funded with fees; some offer stipends/awards; still others are project/work based. There is even a thriving "alternative" category (check out Part 2 of this series where we’ll look at some of the funkier options out there).
