In this instructable video, I show you how to make a device that uses a LiPo (Lithium Polymer) battery to output USB power. You can use this device for charging/running any USB devices, e.g. cell phones, MP3 players, iPhones, iPods, fans, lights, etc. This assumes you have the USB cable for your device already. This solution uses a 5 volt UBEC to convert the power from your LiPo to the right voltage used by USB. Materials Required: -LiPo battery (2 cell minimum, more cells are OK) -male and female connectors for battery -5 Volt UBEC -female servo lead -USB type A female connector Tools Required: -wire strippers -multimeter or volt-ohm meter -soldering iron or gun (optional) -solder and heat shrink (optional) Purchase options: If you can't find the materials, check out some of the following.

DIY Instructables. How to Convert a Laptop LCD into an External Monitor. By the way, I did remove the web cam from the laptop lid, wired it to a USB cable, and turned it into and external peripheral. I wired the two microphones that I found next to the web cam and turned them into external peripherals. I dremeled the batteries open and wired them into a 3 million candle power flashlight made from spare parts I had. I have a lithium ion battery charger, so it worked great. I didn't like the first stand I made. I included some pictures of it above. Since I was asked about the web cam, I though Should add it to the instructable. There is a nice instructable here at this site showing how to convert a web cam from an LCD screen: But be careful the guy that did the mod, reversed the power cables. The USB cable has 4 Wires. Pin 1 on USB 1.

Note, I sourced the web cam from the LCD screen which was a dead HP DV 9000 laptop, working on Windows Vista, originally. 1. The web cam is now wired for plug and play. There you have it. I get a lot of nice comments from folks saying my site helped them when they were building their first quadcopter. However, I have never done a post where I walked through the steps of building a quadcopter from start to finish. So, I wanted to step through a quality build that is easy on the budget, easy to build, and easy to fly. I built this quad with the beginner in mind, yet this is a very solid quadcopter. In Part 1 of this post I will cover my requirements and the parts list. In Part 2, I will go through the detailed steps I went through to build this quad, and in Part 3, I will set up the transmitter, ESCs and KK2.0 board so I can make a maiden flight.

In part 4, I will show how I tuned the quad’s PI settings to optimize its flying capabilities. Finally, in Part 5 I will cover how I attached a GoPro camera to the quad to get some video from the air. Continue reading to see the requirements and parts list I used for this build… Upgrading the KK2.0 Firmware. 3D Robotics APM 2.5+ Autonomous Flight (Part 1 – Conversion) This post is about swapping out the hardware on my Easy DIY Quadcopter to use the 3D Robotics APM 2.5+ flight controller running the Arducopter firmware. In future posts I will do the setup, tuning and testing of the various Arducopter flight modes. If all goes according to plan, the quad will be transformed into an autonomous, mission flying machine! When I did the Easy DIY Quadcopter blog posts, I had already walked through most of the steps prior to writing it up and knew the quad worked.

Also, it was a pretty simple build. With this more complex conversion, I am going to post about what I am doing as I go along. So, I may have to go back and revise these steps if things don’t go well. Continue reading to see how I convereted my Easy DIY quad to use the APM 2.5+… Mounting the Board The APM 2.5+ comes in a protective case which has no mounting holes. DIY Flight Controller Platform The additional platform gave me a flat surface to attach the APM 2.5+. That I bought off Ebay. Motor Layout.
