Pedro Menendez, the founder of , first described the Mayaca after an encounter with them north of the park in 1566, a year after he founded . In the late 1500s, Spanish missions were established in the area. In the early 1800s, settlers built sugar and cotton plantations that were sacked by Seminole Indians during the Second Seminole War. By the 1880s the springs had become a winter resort, and tourists were promised "a fountain of youth impregnated with a deliciously healthy combination of soda and sulphur. " The features exhibits on the park's rich history and artifacts on display from the Mayaca. The swimming area is adjacent to a beautiful, shady picnic ground. Welcome to Florida State Parks. Welcome to Florida State Parks. Cabins Six, two bedroom cabins are located in a shady oak hammock near Blue Spring, a designated manatee refuge.
Cabins accommodate up to six people. One bedroom is furnished with a double bed. The second bedroom is furnished with two single beds. For the guest's relaxation, televisions and phones are not provided. Reservations may be made up to 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. There is a minimum two nights stay in cabins on weekends and holidays, either Friday and Saturday night, or Saturday and Sunday nights. Welcome to Florida State Parks.
