Made of ground stone mixed with carbon black and the secretion of the South Asian lac beetle, 78 RPM discs were the dominant sound-recording medium for a half-century. I started sifting through boxes of junky old 78s that no one else wanted about 15 years ago, and almost right away, I made a rule: Anything that wasn't in English, buy it. Α. Evans Blue, ‘This Time It’s Different’ – Song Review - Loudwire. Canadian band Evans Blue are set to release their fourth studio album later this year and their new single ‘This Time It’s Different’ is generating a lot of buzz — and for good reason. The track, which hits iTunes on Oct. 4, begins with a haunting piano piece that lingers throughout the song. It kicks into high gear with heavy riffs and crashing cymbals. Frontman Dan Chandler shows his skills with a balance of some screaming but mostly melodic vocals. The singer delivers the tune’s chorus with authority: “Destroy my pain / Then capture life again / Destroy my shame / Can’t live my life this way /Go / Let Go / And capture life again.”
His hasty deliverance of the lyrics in the verses is impressive and it has a certain harmonious and poetic flow: “I’m giving up / I’m living but weak / I’m hearing voices from shadows inside me / I never sleep / My eyes are too focused / Too hopeless / Too broken / Too open / to notice.” The new album follows the band’s self-titled 2009 disc. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age (Justice Remix) Steven Smirney. Big Sonic Heaven. In my younger years back in Forest, Ontario in the mid 90's I was quite fortunate to have had the opportunity to tap into one of the fertile hotbeds in music, Detroit Michigan. During these pre-internet years there was a sound that permeated through the terrestrial airwaves of Detroit's 96.3 FM. The show was known as Big Sonic Heaven hosted by Darren Revell, and it aired Sundays at 9PM till 1AM.
He would feature shoegaze(1), dream pop, and trip-hop as well as local talents around the area of Detroit. I got my first taste of many artists such as Aphex Twin, The Boo Radleys, Blur (Leisure, Chemical World), Catherine Wheel, Lush, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Chapterhouse, Slowdive and the Cocteau Twins. The show initially aired a time when shoe-gaze was in its prime and these sonic sounds had a significant impact on me. The shoe-gaze sound feels like Phil Spectors "Wall of Sound" blasted to mars and back.

Summers back, and while being in the mood for some sunny music i came across this Jackie Wilson classic, so i did this little re-edit this morning. will surely play it out the next time i hit the tables, but this weekend we all djs here at chromemusic have off, so have fun with this track and its summery, positive vibes, especially if your gf is called mary jane. Too bad stuff like this is not being played on the radio anymore these days.

I work at a record label (Ba Da Bing Records) and my boss, Ben, is constantly getting new records in. He knows I have a soft spot for 80s/90s post punk/early electro, vaguely alternative music... and so one day, he put on a Wierd Records compilation. It was a vinyl set of like 4 pieces or something.
There were so many good bands on there... however, Automelodi stuck out in my mind as being an authentic, genuine, NON-cheesy version of the 80s I wish I was a part of. The song in particular that gets me going in the morning is called "Schéma Corporel". mp3: automelodi - schéma corporel naomi yang from galaxie 500: The perfect song to start the day is “A Tonga Da Mironga Do Kabuleté” – the live recording from 1971 by Brazilian artists Vinícius + Bethania + Toquinho. Posted on Monday 8 August 2011 It’s been some time since I’ve posted on this blog and I am happy that topomodesto gave me the opportunity to put together a mix. In the face of algorithm driven mix generation I hope that there continues to be interest in crafting diverse listening experiences.
What may start as a matter of convenience easily translates into common practice. Collecting and orchestrating music samples into coherent ideas may be perfected by professional dj’s, but I find my interests don’t take root until I search out the connections between songs and artists myself. It was a real pleasure to put this together, hopefully it inspires you in the waning days of summer. Last Friday night we made it down to Bloomington for the first time in far too long to see Lia Ices and The Cave Singers at Russian Recording. Before I get into the show itself, I need to mention that Russian Recording might just be my new favorite venue in Indiana – it’s a recording studio they set up to serve as a club, and holy cow! It’s so great! It’s intimate, cozy, and of course, sounds amazing. After a particularly soaring coda to one of her beautiful songs, Lia Ices looked especially startled and pleased, saying something like, “that sounded really coolâ€. All night, the audience seemed to have a clear understanding of the superior sound we were so privileged to be experiencing, and there were many times you could hear a pin drop during the two sets. But aside from the exceptional setting, let’s talk about how amazing these two acts were. Mp3: Lia Ices – Love is Wonfrom the album Grown Unknown (buy it here) The Cave Singers were fantastic.
