Charlie Brooker Q&A: the drug of tech has us hooked. What's the side-effect?

Side-effects, of course, that we are yet to find out. Tonight, his thought-provoking series returns with Be Right Back, an episode in which internet presence such as social media can be used to replicate the dead -- tragic in the hands of a grieving partner. Following on from that is political-satire, The Waldo Moment, and White Bear, which takes aim at camera phone voyeurism. Here, the man himself takes us through the looking glass. Wired.co.uk: Hello, Charlie. Charlie Brooker: I like technology, but Black Mirror is more what the consequences are, and it doesn't tend to be about technology itself, it tends to be how we use or misuse it.

I spend an inordinate amount of time going from one black rectangle to the next -- whether it's a smart phone or a TV screen or a laptop -- and it kinda wasn't the case six years ago. CB: There were two inspirations. Tutorial 4. Tutorial 4 - Floating an image thumbnail gallery - all steps combined Step 1 - Start with some thumbnails and captions For this exercise, we want to move all the thumbnails up into rows, like table cells.

The method we are going to use allows for any number of images to sit beside each other, depending on the width of the containing box. Start with 6 images and captions, each in their own div. The divs have all been given a class called "thumbnail". Step 2 - Float the divs Apply "float: left" to the .thumbnail rule. This worked perfectly in natty. So, I install gnome-raw-thumbnailer. I see it set up the correct gconf entries, and yet, no thumbnails. Running it by hand revealed that it also doesn't return anything nor create any files. An strace (attached) shows that the source and destination files are never accessed before it returns -1 and exits. Without this, going through my many hundreds of RAW files will be extremely difficult.
