BANZAI7 NEWS--Tokyo Electric Power Co. acknowledged for the first time this week that its Fukushima Dai-ichi plant was leaking contaminated underground water into the ocean, a problem many experts had suspected since shortly after the crisis unfolded more than two years ago.

The operator of Japan's crippled nuclear plant said that it delayed acknowledging that the plant was leaking contaminated water into the sea because it did not want to worry the public until it was certain there was a problem. As Tokyo enters its final lap in the race to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, some investors are already betting on who they think will grab the gold: the wide swath of Japanese corporations who will score lucrative contracts if the metropolis’s bid succeeds: radiation bathing studios, wearable geiger counters, hot buns, nuclear waste mismanagement consultants, cesium rice crackers and strontium green tea ice cream are key industries to watch.

Q&A on the Senkaku Islands - Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Q1What is the basic view of the Government of Japan on the Senkaku Islands? A1There is no doubt that the Senkaku Islands are clearly an inherent territory of Japan, in light of historical facts and based upon international law.

Indeed, the Senkaku Islands are under the valid control of Japan. There exists no issue of territorial sovereignty to be resolved concerning the Senkaku Islands. Q2What are the grounds for Japan's territorial sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands? A2 The Senkaku Islands were not included in the territory which Japan renounced under Article 2 of the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951 that legally defined the territory of Japan after World War II. Under Article 3 of the treaty, the islands were placed under the administration of the United States as part of the Nansei Shoto Islands. 【Reference: Article 2 of the San Francisco Peace Treaty】 (b) Japan renounces all right, title and claim to Formosa and the Pescadores. 2.

The Recent Russian-Chinese Naval Exercise: A New Phase for the Partnership? 2013-07-31 by Richard Weitz The PRC-Russian relationship is the process of further development. Three recent measures of that development are the following: Their growing energy trade,Their collusion in helping NSA leaker Edward Snowden gain asylum, and their renewed arms sales. In another sign of a deepening relationship, they recently concluded a significant bilateral naval exercise. These drills, which the Russians term “Sea Interaction 2013,” were larger and more sophisticated than last year’s Sino-Russian naval exercise. Early this month, Russia and China conducted an eight-day naval drill in the Sea of Japan. This year’s joint maneuvers exceeded the scale of the April 2012 Russia-China exercise in the Yellow Sea. A naval vessel is seen during the “Joint Sea-2013″ drill at Peter the Great Bay in Russia, July 10, 2013.

Seven Russian warships and support craft took part in Naval Interaction 2012, whereas 12 Russian vessels from the Pacific Fleet participated in this year’s drill. Whisper-thin gas-pump credit-card skimmers. A pair of crooks in Oklahoma made more than $400,000 with a whisper-thin gas-pump credit-card skimmer that they installed in Wal-Mart gas stations, using rental cars while they were doing the installation.

Kevin Konstantinov and Elvin Alisuretove allegedly harvested their skimmers every two months or so, creating bogus credit cards with the data and then withdrawing cash at ATMs or sharing it with crooks in Russia and the former USSR. Brian Krebs details the technology, as well as a series of next-gen gas-pump skimmers that use tiny, unobtrusive Bluetooth bugs to harvest credit-card data. Pump skimmers can be fairly cheap to assemble. The generic gas pump card acceptance device pictured left in the image above (Panasonic ZU-1870MA6t2) can be purchased for about $74.

Hacker Ring Stole 160 Million Credit Cards. U.S. federal authorities have indicted five men — four Russians and a Ukrainian – for allegedly perpetrating many of the biggest cybercrimes of the past decade, including the theft of more than 160 million credit card numbers from major U.S. retailers, banks and card processors. The gang is thought to be responsible for the 2007 breach at credit card processor Heartland Payment Systems that exposed some 130 million card numbers, as well as the 2011 breach at Global Payments that involved nearly a million accounts and cost the company almost $100 million. Federal prosecutors in New Jersey today called the case the largest hacking scheme ever prosecuted in the U.S. Justice Department officials said the men were part of a gang run by Albert “Soupnazi” Gonzalez, a hacker arrested in 2008 who is currently serving a 20-year-prison sentence for his role in many of the breaches, including the theft of some 90 million credit cards from retailer TJX.
