Well this week you are going to be hopping up and down, so make sure you jump to the right round! Are you ready for a workout? Ok so it's not as bad as it sounds, but as Esther always says "keep your wits about you". Your work will be wobbly again this week...never fear it is all part of the madness. Some of you have asked how I came up with this design, or what my process is when designing, so I have written a post all about The Method in My Madness, it may give you an idea of how my mind works. This week our flowers continue to bloom, and take on a shell like quality. From a very young age, I have always been fascinated by nature, and even now, whenever I am on a beach, I will search for shells. I can get lost in the wonder of the patterns created by Mother Nature, in shells, flowers, rocks. The beauty of the world around us is truly astonishing, if we just take the time to stop and be present in the moment. Crochet teaches us many things, humility, patience, grace, but above all it teaches us mindfulness. I have a saying that I use often when teaching “where ever you are, BE there”. And this is one of the weeks that you need to be totally “there” with your work.

Video Tutorial Mandala Madness week 4

This is the first surprise part of the CAL designed by Helen Shrimpton. You can find the original, written pattern with many translations on Helen’s blog. This week we are making lots of popcorns to decorate our star. All videos for Mandala Madness are available through my YouTube channel and on my blog grouped on this dedicated video page. In the video for week 4 I show you how to increase the star we made in part 3 and how to decorate it with popcorn stitches.

I use two Scheepjes yarns for my mandala; Scheepjes Sunkissed and Scheepjes Cotton 8 with a 3mm (D-3) hook. I hope to see you next week for part 5. Mandala Madness Part 4 - Crystals & Crochet. This week we change shape again, this time into an octagon.

The ideas that went spinning through my head were crazy. But I knew it had to be something very special, and so the idea of a HUGE Mandala started to form in my mind. As I started to work on the design I kept saying to myself "this is madness"... and so the name... Mandala Madness And after the sneaky peek we showed you all earlier in December I have just been getting more and more excited, like a four year old waiting to go see Santa. ♥ So what exactly is a Mandala? The easiest way to understand a Mandala is to think of it as a symbolic representation of the universe, often sacred, based on a circle. Creating a group Mandala is a unifying experience in which people can express themselves individually within a unified structure. There are many uses for a Mandala. Merino Soft.
