Yoxi: A creative competition to discover big ideas and bright stars in social innovation.
At Yoxi, we search for amazing people who work hard to change the world, and we connect them to new opportunities by telling their stories in the most creative, compelling ways. We call these people Social Innovation Rockstars (SIRs) because they are original thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and fearless leaders who care about creating lasting social value. The world needs them to have more visibility and influence, so we do our part by helping them reach a mainstream audience. When a movement for social innovation becomes part of pop culture, we can make a real difference. Aerial collage: the new archipelago of incremented kaccha houses rising from a context of well built permanent homes in a typical slum. The problem with social housing has been how to give the most with less money. We have very good examples in Europe, but the constrains are way different than the ones in developing countries. In these countries, almost all the constructions are done by anyone but architects. Clearly, in these countries architects can do something way better than just designing or constructing, developing strategies together with communities to achieve housing solutions that not only address today´s necessities, but that can also be extended over time as families grow, once again by themselves and without architects.

Following on from the huge success of the inaugural WAN AWARDS in 2009 which attracted a staggering 684 entries from around the world, we are delighted to announce the opening of the 2010 AWARDS. We are now rolling out this year's bi-monthly programme of INTERNATIONAL AWARDS BY SECTOR. We will be drawing on last year's top jury panel of top industry experts and adding a few exciting new names to ensure that the WAN AWARDS deliver a tangible value for the architect. Due to the logistical complexities of organising a truly global awards programme, WAN has broken the mould of the traditional annual event (surprise) and opted for a rolling programme which enables us to better work with specialist international panels experienced in the appropriate sector throughout the year and give more attention to and gain a better understanding of the projects. The running order will therefore follow the same format as 2009.
