guest post {Marie Darby…diy photo lampshades

I do not take custom orders, only the tutorial is available. The lamps have held up wonderfully. As many of you requested, Marie is sharing a little tutorial here on how she made her lampshades. When she made them she was not planning on doing a tutorial for this blog, so be sure to thank her for taking the time to write all this out. Also, for those wondering…Kara will be sharing some tutorials for her book art on her blog soon. Marie is happy to do custom orders for those that prefer buying over making! * LAMPSHADE – Hobby Lobby carries self-adhesive shades & nightlights, Target has some smaller lamps for $19 that would be perfect for this project, I’ve found some lamps & shades on Craigslist.

. * GLUE – I used a hot glue gun for the first lamp. . * VELLUM – I buy this in packs of 20 (I think) in the scrapbooking section of Hobby Lobby. Cake Carrier Lamp. A few weeks ago I posted about my cake carrier lamp I made for my guest room/ studio space.

Cake Carrier Lamp

Today I thought I'd show you how I put it all together. Actually it was alarmingly easy ( I say alarming because most of the time my hair brained schemes are a lot more work) I found my cake carrier for FREE at a yard sale but I have seen similar things on thrift shops and most certainly ebay. As badly as I wanted to turn this into a lamp I had a big problem, the inside of the cake carrier is also bright yellow and when I placed it over an exsisting lamp the light it put out could only be described as "Bug Light" yellow, not what I had in mind for a bedside reading lamp. Husband said I should paint the inside, (NO way!)

Rock and Roll Home Décor-Vinyl Record Guitar Holder

My Grandpa was a musician, and so a love of music is not just a prerequisite to being a member of this family, but it’s in our blood! In fact, if you know me you know that I ALWAYS have a song playing in my head. It’s just how I roll! So I’ve decided to make a music wall surrounding my entertainment center. It will kill 2 birds with one stone. #1 is that it clears the clutter from all of our instruments (from Rock Band and Paper Jamz) being on the floor. #2 is the decorative side of things. My first dilemma was how to hang up the guitars on the wall. If you do this at home here are the basics; -You can get your vinyl records soft and pliable by heating them in the oven between 100 and 200 degrees on a cookie sheet. Hang the record on the wall. Hang the guitar on the record. Well, if one guitar is not enough, go for two! Don’t forget to enjoy your music, it’s NOT just for decoration. Does anyone else have rock and roll or music themed décor?
