The figure announced by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), which covers cases going back to late January, is 10 times more than previously reported. Blumenthal has temporarily shut the restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, as a precaution after customers came down with a stomach bug. The HPA's Thames Valley unit is working with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's environmental health department to investigate the outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting. Dr Graham Bickler, regional director of the HPA south-east region, said: "This is a very complex outbreak. We are working closely with the restaurant and with colleagues in the royal borough's environmental health team to explain what happened and to ensure that the risks of it happening again are reduced as much as possible. “I commissioned this from Dave McKean who illustrated The Fat Duck Cookbook,” he says, lifting it on to the table of the boardroom, located in a building overlooking the three-Michelin-star restaurant he opened in Bray, Berkshire, 20 years ago. “The real one is rolled up in a box somewhere.” Apparently you need an OBE and a degree to be offered one of these by the College of Arms. Blumenthal got his OBE in 2006 and has a bunch of letters after his name, albeit honorary ones, given he left school at 18. “It’s probably one of the things I’m proudest of,” he says gazing at it.
