Classical element

Robert Fludd. 1617. Many philosophies and worldviews have a set of classical elements believed to reflect the simplest essential parts and principles of which anything can consist or upon which the constitution and fundamental powers of everything are based. Most frequently, classical elements refer to ancient concepts which some science writers compare to the modern states of matter, relating earth to the solid state, water to liquid, air to gaseous and fire to plasma.[1][2] Historians trace the evolution of modern theory pertaining to the chemical elements, as well as chemical compounds and mixtures of chemical substances to medieval, and Greek models. Many concepts once thought to be analogous, such as the Chinese Wu Xing, are now understood more figuratively. Its has nothing to do with the Catholic idea of the rosary, but this term 'Rosarium' referred to a gathering of sayings of philosophers. The Latin text of the Rosarium is just this, a collection of the sayings of alchemical and other philosophers. The text is in itself quite interesting but it very much enlivened by the inclusion of a series of 20 woodcuts. There is a further woodcut on the title page which shows six philosophers disputing and this links us with the idea of a 'Rosarium' as a collection of their sayings. Modern Alchemy.

Philosophy I have read, and thoroughly understood, The utmost depth of my teachers' knowledge have I sounded. This God graciously granted to me, Giving me a heart to understand wisdom. Thus I became the Author of this Book, And I have clearly set forth the whole matter, That Rich and Poor might understand. There is nothing like it upon earth; Nor (God be praised) have I therein forgotten my humble self.

I am acquainted with the only true foundation: Therefore preserve this Book with care, And take heed that you study it again and again. "Study it again and again": a mere intellectual interpretation is not sufficient, one must gain understanding by contemplating the text and images. The emphasis on directing one's attention to God, or Jesus Christ can be found in several alchemical manuscripts. What is Alchemy. What are the origins of Alchemy?

What is Alchemy

Alchemy is an ancient spiritual science, and one of three disciplines that comprise the Hermetic tradition. Whether conducted in a physical laboratory or one’s own psyche, this so-called “royal art” is concerned with transmuting the “gross” into the “perfect” through a series of processes collectively referred to as the “Magnum Opus” or “Great Work”. Completion of the Great Work purportedly yields the “philosopher’s stone” or the “elixir”, a legendary substance variously claimed to transmute base metals into gold, rejuvenate the body and confer immortality. Although clearly not fundamentally materialistic, alchemy has undeniably influenced material science, as the predecessor of chemistry. Alchemical tinctures also informed a new field of medicine; homeopathy is based on the work of Paracelsus, a 16th century alchemical philosopher. As the late C.G. What does Alchemy mean now? Alchemy is a language of results.
