Hotel Housekeepers Use Mobile Apps, Too Turns out there's an app for getting hotel beds to look all pretty like this. We know all about the range of consumer hotel apps that help us during our stay, but did you know that hotels also use mobile apps on the other end to run the show? Even the housekeepers? This particular housekeeping app, Hibox Housekeeper, is designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency when it comes to cleaning.

The app allows staff members to report a room status, send problem reports with photos, track minibar usage, manage multiple cleaning sessions, and link directly to the property management system in the hotel. While we as guests have the tendency to think this whole room-cleaning process is magic -- you know, we leave the room dirty, come back a few hours later and it's clean -- it is cool to see that housekeeping services are constantly upgrading with the times to improve the way they go about their daily duties. [Photo: HotelChatter] Hotel Housekeeping Duties. A Step by Step Breakdown of Hotel Housekeeping Duties Hotel guests will expect their rooms to be neat and clean at the start of each day. Since cleanliness can make or break a hotel business, the hotel housekeeping duties are among the most important in the business. The following duties should be done each day in a room to keep it spic and span.

Preparing the Cart The first duty for a housekeeper is to be sure she has the proper amount of towels and fresh linens to make up the number of rooms she will be cleaning. Stripping the Room This task is done when a guest checks out prior to a new guest checking in. Taking the Garbage Most hotel rooms have at least two garbage cans in them – one in the bathroom and one in the main room. Making the Beds The bed linens should be removed and replaced each day, unless otherwise specified by the guests.

Cleaning the Bathroom The bathroom will probably get the most attention of any area in the hotel room. Dusting the Room Finishing Touches. Housekeepers – Moving on up. With interior design and recycling in the job spec, it's clear that hoteliers now expect a lot more from their executive housekeepers than just keeping the property clean. Rosalind Mullen reports Executive housekeepers in the UK's top hotels are shrugging off their Cinderella image, getting to grips with environmental issues and staff well-being, and increasingly being invited to sit round the management table.

Indeed, they've never been so accountable. Not only are they in charge of an army of room attendants and cleaners, they have to be handy with profit and loss accounts, paperwork, recruitment, human resources (HR), guest liaison, time-and-motion practices - and do the lot with fewer resources to boot. So says Liz Smith-Mills, UK hotel consultant at cleaning product and services company Diversey. She works with housekeepers to find out what they need to improve standards, as well as driving the introduction of new systems. Man-management is a big part of the job, too.
