A new online tool which is launching today simplifies the process of requesting information from telecom providers about the information they collect, and about their disclosure of personal information to third parties. The Access My Info tool creates a formal letter which, under Canadian privacy law, telecom companies are legally obliged to respond to within 30 days. The Access My Info tool is the product of a collaboration between top Protect Our Privacy coalition experts at the Citizen Lab, at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs, and the Digital Stewardship Initiative along with community-based Internet freedom group OpenMedia.ca.
