Scientists believe they have discovered one whose mass is 12 billion times that of our sun’s. Photograph: Zhaoyu Li/Shanghai Astronomical/Peking University/PA A team of astronomers recently found a black hole that is a staggering 12 billion times the mass of our sun. For comparison, our star is roughly 333,000 times the mass of Earth. This means that some 1.3 million Earths could fit inside one sun. However, this black hole isn’t just massive, it is also incredibly, incredibly old. This black hole ultimately raises some questions about how black holes grow and develop over time. “Forming such a large black hole so quickly is hard to interpret with current theories,” said Dr. Dark Matter and Dark Energy Explained (infographic) Have a problem understanding dark matter and dark energy?

Don’t know why scientists think it’s out there? Hopefully, this guide will give you a good breakdown of the topic. In short, these features are required, in some form or another, to reconcile the geometry of space with the total amount of observed matter that exists in space—they explain the large scale structure of the universe and the observed expansion. Dark Matter and Dark Energy Explained (infographic) Lecture 1: What is Civilization? Up to about the year 1860, man's history had been conveniently divided into three distinct epochs: ancient, medieval and modern.

After 1860, however, a new expression came into general use to describe the cultures of the distant past. Pre-history was the name given to that period of man's history before written documents appeared. We can now study man's pre-history through the field of archeology. Archeological remains can illuminate how and where early cultures lived, stored food and produced tools. List of avian humanoids. Huitzilopochtli, Aztec god of Tenochtitlan.

The Wisdom of Thoth-Hermes: The Origin of Reason

As I work to complete my first book, “The Truth About Everything,” I have have begun to read many ancient texts and legends in order to uncover the ontological truths that, due to the obfuscation of the origin of man and our true history, has mainly survived through a type of veiled verbal symbolism, known as esotericism. Left Brain vs. Right: It's a Myth, Research Finds

Popular culture would have you believe that logical, methodical and analytical people are left-brain dominant, while the creative and artistic types are right-brain dominant. Trouble is, science never really supported this notion. Now, scientists at the University of Utah have debunked the myth with an analysis of more than 1,000 brains. They found no evidence that people preferentially use their left or right brain. All of the study participants — and no doubt the scientists — were using their entire brain equally, throughout the course of the experiment. A paper describing this study appeared in August in the journal PLOS ONE. [10 Things You Didn't Know About the Brain] The preference to use one brain region more than others for certain functions, which scientists call lateralization, is indeed real, said lead author Dr.

Why the Left-Brain Right-Brain Myth Will Probably Never Die. The left-brain right-brain myth will probably never die because it has become a powerful metaphor for different ways of thinking – logical, focused and analytic versus broad-minded and creative.

Zupanick, Psy.D. & Mark Dombeck, Ph.D. Recently, attachment theory has been expanded and further developed by Peter Fonagy and Anthony Bateman. These researchers coined the term "mentalization. " New evidence that chronic stress predisposes brain to mental illness. University of California, Berkeley, researchers have shown that chronic stress generates long-term changes in the brain that may explain why people suffering chronic stress are prone to mental problems such as anxiety and mood disorders later in life. Myelin is stained blue in this cross section of a rat hippocampus.
