Reflecting on Your Life. Recent surveys of graduating seniors revealed that even our most satisfied students felt that a key experience was missing.

Reflecting on Your Life

One graduating senior wrote: My experience in classes here at Harvard was excellent overall. Yet I wish I had a chance as a freshman to discuss with fellow students, in an organized way, some questions about ‘how to live my life.’ I did quite well in economics and history and chemistry. There were plenty of such courses. Another student asked: How to Live Wisely. Photo Imagine you are Dean for a Day.

How to Live Wisely

What is one actionable change you would implement to enhance the college experience on campus? I have asked students this question for years. The answers can be eye-opening. 6 Subtle Things Highly Productive People Do Every Day. Ever feel like you’re just not getting enough done?

6 Subtle Things Highly Productive People Do Every Day

Know how many days per week you’re actually productive? About 3: People work an average of 45 hours a week; they consider about 17 of those hours to be unproductive (U.S.: 45 hours a week; 16 hours are considered unproductive). We could all be accomplishing a lot more — but then again, none of us wants to be a workaholic either. It’d be great to get tons done and have work/life balance.

Creative writing majors getting rich as demand skyrockets — The Dandy Goat

“Life as a creative writing major is sweet,” he said. A new Labor Department report shows the demand for creative writing majors grew last year to its highest level ever, making a bachelor’s degree in the field more valuable than even a triple major in engineering, computer science and business. The rise in demand is leading to what Deborah Malarkest of the Washington Post describes as the advent of professional urban poets, or “Puppies” — a generation of creative writing majors who are becoming wealthy as companies fight to hire them. The average starting salary in the U.S. for a creative writing major is now higher than six figures — $101,232, according to the report — and even higher for those with concentrations in poetry or playwriting. “Today, there’s only one word: words,” Monty said.
