The energy demand that is avoided as a result of steady improvements in the efficiency of energy-using stock such as buildings, cars and appliances is larger than the total final consumption from coal, oil or gas in IEA member countries. The market for energy efficiency investments is very large – estimated between USD 310 billion and USD 360 billion in 2011 – and this market is producing results: total final consumption in IEA countries is estimated to be 60% lower today because of energy efficiency improvements over the last four decades. Since 2001, investments in energy efficiency in 18 IEA countries have helped to avoid over 1 700 million tonnes of oil-equivalent from being consumed. Germany named most energy efficient country in study of 16 major economies. Date 22 July 2014 LONDON: Germany is the world’s most energy efficient country, according to a new report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
Sixteen of the world’s largest economies who collectively represent 71% of global electricity consumption, were examined by the bipartisan nonprofit in an attempt to determine who is leading on sustainability. The analysis examines how energy is managed across three key societal sectors: buildings, transport and industry, with “national efforts” also included. To determine which nation took the top spot, 31 metrics relating to both policy and performance were evaluated. While Germany’s climate leadership earned it first place, Italy, France and China all scored well. “Germany is a prime example of a nation that has made energy efficiency a top priority,” ACEEE Executive Director Steven Nadel enthused, however, the Director was less positive about the United States which ranked 13th out of 16 countries.

Le projet Energy-Efficiency-Watch 2 (EEW2), qui dure depuis septembre 2010 jusque août 2013, vise à faciliter la mose en oeuvre de la Directive Efficiacité Energétique. Une des principales activités du projet EEW 2 était une étude approfondie des résultats des premiers plan d’action nationaux pour l’efficacité énergétique 2 dans les 27 Etats membres.Le but de cette enquête était d’apprendre par les acteurs, les experts et les réseaux comment ils voient l’état d’avancement des politiques d’efficacité énergétique et de leur mise en œuvre dans différents secteurs depuis le premier PNAEE dans leur pays respectif.
